Pioneers Lose Heartbreaker at Notre Dame

SOUTH EUCLID, OH – After leading for almost 36 minutes of regulation time on Saturday afternoon, Glenville's Pioneers suffered a heartbreaking 104-94 loss to Notre Dame in double overtime. GSC connected on 17 three-pointers to very nearly pull the road win.

Down 12-10 just five minutes in, John Williams delivered a three-pointer to give GSC a 13-12 lead. A Zane DeSouza three made it 33-25 at the 5:03 mark, and a Tommy Williams bomb extended the lead to ten at 40-30 in the final minute of the first half.

Notre Dame rallied to cut the margin to 43-39 early in the second half, but GSC's sharp perimeter game extended the lead back to 54-42 with an 11-3 run. Notre Dame chipped away, cutting the lead to one at 68-67 with two minutes remaining, but another three from Tommy Williams put the Pioneers up 71-67 at the 1:34 mark. Notre Dame would tie the game at 71-71 at the end of regulation. Jaedon Willis connected on a three with seven seconds remaining, and a Michael Sampson free throw would tie the game with five seconds remaining.

In the overtime, Notre Dame grabbed a quick 74-71 lead, but the resilient Pioneers refused to fold, keeping it close, and tying the game at 83-83 on a Dajon Congleton three with 38 seconds left in the extra frame. This would force a second overtime.

Adrian Scarborough opened the second overtime with a pair of traditional three-point plays, forging an 89-86 GSC advantage. Notre Dame would score the next eight points to gain control and steal the victory.

Scarborough led the Pioneers with 25 points and 14 rebounds, his fifth double in the last six contests. John Williams Jr. also produced another double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Several other GSC players hit double figures; DeSouza with 16, Tommy Williams 15, and Congleton 11.

Willis led Notre Dame with 30 points. With Tyland Crawford adding 21.

Glenville falls to 7-10 overall, and 4-9 in the MEC. Notre Dame is now 11-9 overall, 8-6 in the league.
