Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

#1 Lady Pioneers Improve to 18-0

SOUTH EUCLUD, OH – Glenville State's defense went into "lockdown mode" in the second half Saturday at Notre Dame. The nation's #1 ranked Lady Pioneers pulled away for a 90-48 victory over the host Falcons, outscoring the hosts 50-19 in the second half.

Early on, the game was tight. GSC trailed 10-9 at the first media timeout, but closed the quarter with a 14-3 run to establish 23-13 lead. Notre Dame played them close to the vest in the second quarter, and the advantage remained 11 at the half; 40-29. GSC would shoot only 38.3% (18-of-47) in the first half, and only 4-of-20 from beyond the arc. Their saving grace was two things; the hot hand of Taychaun Hubbard, who tallied 13 points in the half, and two, a 26-15 team rebound advantage that led to some second chance looks.

In the second half, the narrative changed…dramatically. Glenville would shoot a sterling 19-of-30 in the half (63.3%), and on the defensive end, they put the lock on the Falcons. The lead ballooned to 61-37 after three quarters, and the margin gradually expanded in the final stanza.

Hubbard led all scorers with 22 points, going 9-of-12 from the field. She also connected on four of the team's seven threes. She was complemented in double figures by Re'Shawna Stone with 19 and Dazha Congleton with 11. The balanced attack also included Vendela Danielsson and Abby Stoller with eight each, and Skylar Davidson seven.

Individual rebounding was just as balanced. Congleton posted a team high eight, with Stoller, Stone, and Hubbard all pulling down seven. Congleton produced a strong floor game all-around, leading the team with five assists, four steals, and two blocks. She was also a major cog in the defensive shutdown in the second half.

GSC closed with a decisive 46-28 lead in team rebounding. They also forced 25 Falcon turnovers, 15 of which came in the second half.

Notre Dame was led by Lilee Carlson with 15 points, and Amil Ali-Shakir with 11.

Glenville improves to 18-0 with the victory, and 13-0 in the MEC. Notre Dame falls to 7-11 overall, and 6-7 in the league.

GSC is back on the road next Wednesday traveling to Fairmont. FSU is currently second in the MEC with a 10-3 conference mark. Tip-off is set for 5:30 in the Feaster Center.
