The Pioneers Seven Interceptions Propel Them Over West Liberty 35-14

Glenville, W.Va. - In the Pioneers' 35-14 defeat over the Hilltoppers of West Liberty, a Mountain East Conference, and Glenville State record was broken. Glenville's seven interceptions breaks the GSU record and the MEC record for most interceptions in a game. The Pioneers finished the game with 265 yards of total offense with West Liberty accumulating 359 yards.

In the first possession of the game, Glenville's defense would answer the call early. Dane Lynch's interception gave the Pioneers great field position for their first offensive drive. Glenville's rushing attack created the first touchdown of the game. Alfred Menjor's clutch seven-yard pickup on fourth and two kept the drive going and Saeed Galloway punched it in for Glenville.  After taking the lead 7-0, West Liberty tied the game with a long 9:43 drive. 

On Glenville's opening offensive drive of the second quarter, Quarterback Jeff Miller would throw his only interception of the game. The Hilltopper's defense tipped the ball at the line of scrimmage and Zach Dixon made the diving catch. However, on the Hilltoppers' nest possession, Rudy Garcia fumbled the ball giving Glenville great field position once more. Miller would find Bonner Orion on the 31-yard touchdown reception to regain the lead 14-7. With 2:51 left in the half, West Liberty found the back of the endzone with a pass from Garcia to T.J Griffin. With the Pioneers' offense being held in check, the defense would be tested once again. The Hilltoppers drove the ball to the GSU 22-yard line, but Sean Bowers intercepted Garcia for the second time.

Glenville entered the third quarter tied 14-14 and with the ball. In the first minutes of the half, Jeff Miller found the endzone once more. This time Miller connected with Javian Bellamy for the 45-yard touchdown pass. In the next two possessions, both teams failed to get anything going on offense. At the 8:36 mark, Glenvilles' Jacob Clark returned an interception for a touchdown to stretch the lead to 28-14.

In the beginning of the fourth quarter, the Pioneers would be forced to punt. On the Hilltoppers' opening drive of the fourth quarter, Dane Lynch picked off Rudy Garcia for the second time of the game. The Pioneers at the West Liberty 33 yard-line went for it on fourth down. Orion Booner would make the key reception for the Pioneers to extend the drive. Alfred Menjor's 18-yard rushing touchdown increased the Pioneers' lead making it 35-14. Glenville's defense on the next two drives forced two more interceptions. Even Jackson's pick at the 3:11 mark broke the previous MEC record which was six interceptions in a game.

Junior Seth Arnold and Sophomore Sean Bowers lead the Pioneers in tackles with both producing 10. Isaiah Macklin finished the game with 2 tackles for loss. Dane Lynch Jr. and Noah McBride lead Glenville in interceptions with two. Quarterback Jeff Miller Finished the day with 150 passing yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. Bonner Orion produced 71 receiving yards on five receptions.
