The Ninth Ranked Lady Pioneers Set their Eyes on the Falcons of Notre Dame College

Glenville, W.Va. - Glenville State Women's Basketball team is set to travel facing the Falcons of Notre Dame College. Since 2017 the Lady Pioneers are (15-0) against Notre Dame. GSU is coming off a tough loss to a Senior driven University of Charleston while NDC enters with a win over Ursuline College.

A Look at Notre Dame College

The Falcons enter the contest with a (2-4) overall record and (1-1) in Mountain East Conference Play. To kick off the 2022-23 season Notre Dame competed in the Conference Challenge hosted by Gannon University. Going against stiff competition Coach Gordon's squad opened the season with two straight losses.

Head Coach Imani Gordon enters her second season under the helm. In Gordon's first season the Falcons made the MEC Tournament as the fifth seed. Notre Dame College was able to pull off the upset in the quarter-finals defeating a veteran coach in Concord's Kenny Osborne. In Gordon's short career as head coach, she has had one player be named to an All-American team and receive conference honors

While the Falcons only score 61.3 points per game they have a top-three defense in the league. Opponents are being held to 69.3 points per contest. Notre Dame currently ranks fourth in the league for blocked shots producing 2.8 per game.

Redshirt Sophomore Alana Ellis leads the team in scoring producing 16.6 points per contest. While Marina Adachi is only averaging 9.8 points per game, she has had two games where she scored 18 or more points. Freshman forward Noel Weathers through five games is averaging a team-high 6.2 rebounds per contest. Weathers a native of Cincinnati, Ohio has had 10 or more rebounds in the past two games.

A Look at Your Lady Pioneers

The Lady Pioneers have not been in action in over a week. GSU enters with a (3-1) overall record and (1-1) in the league. Coach Stephen's squad to open conference play faced a perineal power in the University of Charleston and West Virginia State who was selected fifth in the MEC Preseason Poll. 

As a team, the Lady Pioneers are one of the best teams in the country at forcing turnovers. Glenville on average force 28.6 turnovers a game which is second in the nation and #1 in the conference. This has led to the Lady Pioneers winning the turnover battle by a margin of 11. While GSU only shoots 29% from three, they are averaging 10 made per contest which is the best in the MEC and eighth in the country.

Three Lady Pioneers are currently averaging double-figures in scoring. Breanna Campbell leads the team with 13 points per game. Junior Hya Haywood after her 20-point showing against West Virginia State has started to be a consistent scorer for Glenville. Mickayla Perdue hailing from Springfield, Ohio has proven a consistent deep threat shooting 36% from three. Haywood during the 2022-23 campaign so far has shown to be an initiator out in transition averaging 3.5 steaks per contest.
