Glenville State Wrestling Starts 2022-23 Campaign Undefeated

Glenville, W.Va. - Glenville State's Wrestling team hosted the first-ever Pioneer Duals inside the Waco Center. The Pioneers went 5-0 picking up two conference wins and a win over the #16  ranked team in the nation Ashland University. 

The largest victory for Coach Dylan Cottrell's squad came against King University 38-14. Glenville also defeated Fairmont State (33-18), Notre Dame College (32-20), and Seton Hill (33-16).

Every Pioneer that wrestled in the duals picked up a win. Devin Easton and Gavin Quicho both finished the day with a 5-0 record helping the Pioneers jump to an early lead. Seniors Hunter Delong and Cole Houser also finished the day undefeated. With Delong wrestling at the 174 weight class and Houser at 184, both helped Glenville late in the duals. Delong in the dual with Ashland University picked up a huge win over a nationally ranked opponent.

Jordan Williams who entered ranked 12th in the nation as an individual went 4-1. Williams's only loss of the day came against Ashland's Walker Uhl who was ranked 7th. Making his Glenville debut transfer Gaetano DeLeonardis from Millersville also accumulated a 4-1 record. 

With the Pioneers facing injuries, Sophomore Gavin Shamblin stepped in at the 285 weight class for Glenville. Shamblin finished the day 1-1 but his loss by decision helped the Pioneers secure the victory over Ashland.

The Pioneers will be back in action Thursday, November 10th for the Battle on the Gridiron Two at Morris Stadium.
