The Lady Pioneers End Road Trip Against Lock Haven University

Glenville, W.Va. - Glenville State Women's Basketball team ends their three-game road trip against Lock Haven University. Thursday's afternoon contest is the first meeting between these two schools since the 2006-07 season. While the Bald Eagles have two losses on the year, they have a ranked win over a PSAC foe. With Lock Haven showing the ability to upset teams the Lady Pioneers will have another test.

A Look at Lock Haven

Lock Haven has not played since the third of December. The Bald Eagles enter Thursday's game with a (4-2) overall record and (2-0) in the PSAC. In their last time out, they defeat the fifteenth-ranked Vulcans of California Pennsylvania. Since then the Vulcans have dropped out of the WBCA poll and lost to Fairmont State. Through the opening portion of the conference play, LHU sits tied for first in the PSAC East Division.

The Bald Eagles are coached by Jennifer Smith who enters her fifteenth season under the helm. Smith in her tenure at Lock Haven University has gone (132-229). While at LHU Coach Smith has led the Bald Eagles to their first PSAC tournament win in 28 years and has the second-most wins in school history. 

Through six games this season Lock Haven as a team ranks first in the PSAC for assist-to-turnover ratio with 1.14. With a positive assist-to-turnover ratio the Bald Eagles also rank first in their conference for turnovers per game with 14.3 and sit in third for assists per game accounting for 16.3 per contest. While the LHU distributes the ball well, they do not shoot well from three ranking last in the PSAC shooting 27.7%. However, Coach Smith's squad is one of the top teams in the PSAC at defending the three. On average opponents are shooting 28.3% from deep against Lock Haven.

Freshman Forward Alana Robinson leads the Bald Eagles in scoring and rebounding this season. During the 2022-23 campaign Robinson is averaging 12.3 points per game and 6.8 rebounds. Taylor Leidy and Carly Fitzmorris both have been Lock Haven's best distributors this season averaging 2.7 assists per contest. Brooke Lawyer and Taylor wrap up the Bald Eagles producing double figures. 

A Look at Your Lady Pioneers

Glenville State enters Thursday afternoon with an (8-1) overall record and (5-1) in the Mountian East Conference. With a strong fourth quarter, the Lady Pioneers were able to defeat Pitt Johnstown. So far this season GSU has gone (2-0) against PSAC opponents. With last Tuesday's release of the WBCA poll Coach, Stephens's squad has moved up to #6 in the nation.

The Lady Pioneers still rank first in all of Division II for scoring offense averaging 94.1 points per game. With Glenville getting out in transition GSU also leads the country in steals per contest and has one the best turnover margin. On average the Lady Pioneers produce 17.1 steals per game and opponents turnover the ball 29.8 times per contest. Glenville continues to be dominant out-scoring opponents by 25.6 points per game.
 
Mickayla Perdue and Breanna Campbell have consistently been the Lady Pioneers' top scorers this season. With a third of the season finished, both are averaging 14 points and have produced 20 or more points in a game. Perdue a native of Springfield, Ohio in the month of December has averaged 17.5 points. Mo Pruitt has had a great start to her career as a Lady Pioneer. Pruitt in nine games has produced two double-doubles. In the game versus Pitt Johnstown, she led Glenville in points with 18 and grabbed nine rebounds.
