GSU Wrestling Finishes Lander Duals with a 3-1 Record

Greenwood, S.C. - Glenville State's Wrestling program was back in action for the first time since November 20th. The Pioneers were able to finish the Lander Duals with a winning record, defeating the University of Mount Olive 25-21, Belmont Abbey College 31-11, and Simon Fraser University 30-22.

Glenville's heavyweights had an excellent showing at the duals going 4-0 as a unit. Gavin Shamblin was able to defeat Belmont Abbey's John Carroll III. Transfer Jared Campbell had another dominant performance. Campbell finished the day 3-0 while pinning his opponent in 52 seconds in the match against Mount Olive. The redshirt sophomore also was the only Pioneer to win in the dual versus Lander University.

Gavin Quiocho a native of Parkersburg, W.Va. finished the day with a 3-1 record. Quiocho was able to defeat Simon Fraser's Marques Calapiz by fall in 1:19.

Similarly to Quiocho, Devin Easton, Guy Deleonardis, Hunter Delong, and Cole Houser all would finish the Lander Duals 3-1. Delong a senior picked up another pin against Simon Fraiser adding to his career total at Glenville State.

Tristen Pugh was able to pick up his first win of the 2022-23 campaign. Pugh wrestling at the 157 weight class was able to defeat Belmont Abbey's Maxwell Kiel by decision 8-5.

Coach Cottrell's squad returns to action on December 16th. The Pioneers will be back on the road at the Midwest Classic once again facing stiff competition.
