A Look at Frostburg State

Frostburg State enters the contest with a (2-6) overall record and (1-3) in the Mountian East Conference. The Bobcats in back-to-back games have tested perennial powers West Virginia State and the University of Charleston. If was not for a strong fourth quarter by the Golden Eagles, FSU would have come up on top.

Head Coach Jenna Eckleberry enters her first season at Frostburg State. Eckleberry coming from Shepherd University knows the league and Atlantic Region very well. Her 2021-22 Shepherd quad tested the Lady Pioneers during the second round of the 2022 Atlantic Regional.

As a team, the Bobcats have not rebounded the ball well. On average Frostburg State is getting out-rebounded by 10.4 rebounds per game ranking them last in the conference for rebounding margin. However, Frostburg is one of the best ball-handling teams in the MEC. Through eight games the Bobcats are only turning over the ball around 14 times a game which is #1 in the league.

Freshman Emilee Weakley is one-tenth of a rebound away from averaging a double-double. Weakley a native of Luray, Va. through the first four games produced four consecutive double-doubles. In the game versus West Virginia State, the freshman went off for 32 points and 14 rebounds. Guard Maggie Sharp has constantly given the Bobcats 11 points a contest. Out of the starting, five Sharp has committed the fewest amount of turnovers.

With five Lady Pioneers in double figures, Coach Stephens's quad was able to defeat Alderson Broaddus University. Division I transfer Mickayla Perdue produced a career-high 26 points in GSU's winning effort.

So far this season GSU is averaging 17.7 steals per game and forcing 31.5 turnovers per contest which ranks first in all of Division II. While the Lady Pioneers are shooting 32.2% from three, on average they are hitting 11 per game.

Junior Breanna Campbell has proven to be an overall threat for Glenville. Campbell leads the Lady Pioneers in points per game with 15.8, rebounds with 5.5, and assists averaging 3.3 per contest. Both Mo Pruitt and Mickayla Perdue have started to hit their stride. Pruitt in the game versus Notre Dame College produced 30 points and 11 rebounds for her first double-double of the season.
