Glenville to Open the 2022 Season on the Road

Glenville, W.Va - The Pioneers will open up the 2022 season at the Quincy University Hawks. This will be the first matchup in school history between these squads. Head Coach Mike Kellar enters his fourth season with Pioneers.

The Hawks of Quincy University finished the 2021 season with a 4-7 record. Similarly to the Pioneers last season, Quincy was also a very young squad. The Hawks will be returning two seniors who made the D2fottball Elite watch list. Offensive Lineman Bj Wilson was selected to the 2022 D2football Elite watchlist. Last Season for the Hawks Wilson was on the field for 10 out of the 11 games for Quincy. Lineman Peyten Chappel was also named to the list for the Hawks. Last season Chappel, produced five interceptions, 83 total tackles, and forced two fumbles for Quincy.

Glenville in total is returning 14 starters from last season. Six of the returning starters made All-MEC Teams last season. On the Offensive side of the ball, the Pioneers return Running Back Alfred Menjor. Menjor in Sophomore campaign wrapped up the 2021 season with 797 rushing yards, 7 touchdowns, and averaged 88.6 yards per game which was fourth in the MEC.

The Glenville defense returns Brandon Penn, Seth Arnold, and Shaun Sterling Jr. Penn produced seven interceptions and 6 pass breakups. The Sophomore from Parkersburg, W.Va, finished first in the MEC in interceptions and tied second nationally across Division Two. Seth Arnold finished the season with 89 tackles and 11 tackles for loss. Arnold would be neck and neck the entire season with West Virginia State's Payton Lunsford to lead the MEC in tackles. Shawn Sterling Jr. would help strengthen Glenville's passing defense with two interceptions and 4 pass breakups.

The Pioneers return talent from the offensive line that only allowed 1.1 sacks per game last season. Ian Pomeroy is a key contributor to the line, and returns for his Junior season with Glenville. Sophomore Justin Collier will move to the offensive line this season to help maintain the success from last season. Glenville also returns Roy Coppedge who started for the Pioneers last season.
