The Pioneers Host West Liberty for Hall of Fame Weekend

Glenville, W.Va. - Glenville State University's Football program is set to host the West Liberty Hilltoppers for Hall of Fame Weekend. The Hall of Fame Weekend is sponsored by Minnie Hamilton Health Systems. Glenville enters Saturday's contest with a (2-2) record overall and (1-2) in the Mountain East Conference. 

West Liberty University is coming off a victory over West Virginia Wesleyan 23-21 improving their record to 3-1. The Hilltoppers are coached by Roger Waialae who is entering his 18th season under the helm.  West Liberty's defense has been a strength for the Hilltoppers this season. Defensive Back Shon Stephens leads the West Liberty's pass defense. Stephens during the 2022 campaign has produced seven interceptions which is the most in all of Division 2. Senior Zach Dixon has made 22 tackles this season followed by Trent Crawford with 20. Offensively the Hilltoppers are averaging 220 yards in the air and 107 on the ground. in West Liberty's passing attack is led by Rudy Garcia. Garcia this season has passed for 619 yards and 6 touchdowns. Sophomore Rashawn Harvey has caught 12 passes for 177 yards and a touchdown. Quincy Wimbush leads the running game with 242 yards.

The Pioneers are coming off a loss to Wheeling University 23-34. Glenville's run game was held in check last week only gaining 71 yards. So far this season Zakee Swann, Alfred Menjor, and Saeed Galloway have been contributors to the Pioneer's rushing attack. Both Swann and Menjor this season has rushed for over 100 yards in a game. Quarterback Jeff Miller leads Glenville's passing attack. Miller has thrown for over 1,000 yards, 10 touchdowns, and is averaging 267 yards per game. Javian Bellamy has been the Pioneer's top receiver during the 2022 campaign with 328 yards and 3 touchdowns. The Pioneer's pass defense statistically ranks third in the MEC. Defensive Backs Brandon Penn, Shaun Sterling, and Mark Shepherd all have recorded an interception this season. Junior Seth Arnold has a team-high 32 tackles this season followed by Sean Bowers with 29. Bowers also leads Glenville's defense in tackles for loss with 3.5. Sophomore Marion Lawson has created problems for opposing offensive lines with two sacks for 16 yards.
