Glenville State Women’s Basketball Resumes Conference Play Against Wheeling University

Glenville, W.Va. - Glenville State Women's Basketball is set to host the Cardinals of Wheeling University. The Lady Pioneers were able to complete the season sweep against the Cardinals last season. While Wheeling enters the contest with two conference losses, they have defeated some of the league's best teams.

A Look at Wheeling University

Wheeling University enters Wednesday's game with a (6-5) overall and (4-2) in the Mountain East Conference. The Cardinals have already faced two nationally ranked opponents this season. In the contest versus the University of Charleston, Wheeling only trailed the Golden Eagles by two entering the fourth quarter. 

Head Coach Anna Kowalska enters her first season with the program. Coach Kowalska comes from Life University where her squad tripled their win total and raised the team GPA from a 2.2 to 3.3 overall. She has also had success at West Virginia Tech taking the Golden Bears to their first NAIA Tournament bid.

As a team, the Cardinals have one of the best interior defenses in the conference. Wheeling on average holds opponents to 37.8% shooting from the field ranking them first in the MEC. Wheeling University also produces 2.8 blocks per game which ranks towards the top of the conference.

Senior Lauren Calhoun is Wheeling's leading scorer and rebounder so far this season. Through 11 games Calhoun is averaging a double-double scoring 18.5 points per game and producing 11.5 rebounds. Shanley Woods has been the Cardinal's best shooter from deep. The Wheeling, W.Va. native has shot 37.1% from three which is fifth in the conference. 

A Look at Your Lady Pioneers 

The Lady Pioneers enter Wednesday's contest with an (11-1) overall record (5-1) in the MEC. Glenville State enters the new year on an eight-game winning streak. Historically the matchup has favored GSU with the Lady Pioneers going 10-0 in the last ten. 

Glenville remains one of the country's best offensive teams scoring 91.2 points per game. On average the Lady Pioneers are outscoring opponents by 24 points per contest. Coach Stephen's squad has also rebounded the ball well offensively producing 17.7 offensive rebounds a game. Glenville State's press has been solid helping GSU win the turnover battle. Through eleven games this season the Lady Pioneers are forcing opponents to turnover the ball 29.7 per game. 

Both Breanna Campbell and Mickayla Perdue have been Glenville's best scorers this season. So far this season Campbell and Perdue are averaging 14 points a contest. Campbell a native of Largo Fla. has proven to be an overall threat paring her 14 points a game with 5.4 rebounds and 3.9 assists. Along with Campbell Mo Pruitt has been efficient on both ends as well. The 5-9 guard is the Lady Pioneers' leading rebounder with 5.8 rebounds and accounting for 10.5 points per contest.
