Pioneer Wrestling Falls to #7 University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown 27-12

Johnstown, Pa. - Glenville Wrestling faced the Mountain Cats of the University of Pittsburgh Johnstown in their last dual before the Mountain East Conference Championships. Coming into Saturday Night Pitt Johnstown was firing on all cylinders winning their last ten. The Pioneers were also on a roll heading into the dual winning their last six and defeating #4 West Liberty. However, Glenville State fell to the Mountain Cats 27-12.

Coach Cottrell's Pioneers opened the dual with a 14-6 major decision going in favor of UPJ's Trevon Gray dropping the first weight class. Heading into his match Devon Easton was undefeated in the month of January. The Pioneers were able to jump out to a 6-4 lead with Gavin Quiocho pinning his opponent in the last round.

After Quiocho gained a crucial six points for the Pioneers, GSU dropped the next five weight classes. Ethan Hardy, Guy Deleonardis, and Tristan Pugh's matches would be close with both being decided by decision. With a forfeit at the 149 weight class, the Mountain Cats had earned 15 points giving them an advantage of 19-6.

The Pioneers started to dig into UPJ's lead in the 174 and 184 weight classes. Senior Hunter Delong snapped the cold stretch defeating Pitt-Johnstown's James Weber by decision 7-4. Then #9 Cole Houser came out on top 9-3 cutting the Mountain Cats' lead down to seven with two more matches remaining. 

With Glenville State's Devan Gauldin losing by tech fall in the second round shut the door had been shut for GSU to make the comeback. While sophomore Gavin Shamblin lost 5-3 to UPJ's Isaiah Vance, Shamblin battled and almost pulled off the upset at the 285 weight class. Vance came into the match ranked fifth in the nation
