Two Pioneers Crowned Mountain East Conference Champions

West Liberty, W.Va. – Coach Dylan Cottrell and Glenville Wrestling squad recorded their second consecutive Runner-up finish at the Mountain East Conference Championships. After scoring 117 points in 2022, only the program's second year of resurrection, the Pioneers tallied 123 points in the 2023 event. #4 ranked West Liberty captured the title with 150 points.  Glenville advanced eight different wrestlers to the Finals, with two wrestlers capturing league individual titles.
 
Senior Hunter Delong won the championship at 174, defeating West Liberty's Chase Morgan 5-4. Jared Campbell captured the title at 285, recording a 3-1 victory over West Liberty's Francesco Borsellino in the final seconds.
 
Six different Glenville wrestlers recorded MEC runner-up finishes within their weight classes; Devon Easton at 125, Gavin Quiocho at 133, Ethan Hardy at 149, Tristan Pugh at 157, Guy DeLeonardis at 165, Cole Houser at 184.
 
After West Liberty and Glenville's century-plus tallies, there was a clear separation from the rest of the field. Fairmont placed third with 93 points, followed by Notre Dame (86), Davis & Elkins (52), Alderson Broaddus (46), and Wheeling (40).
 
Coach Cottrell and his squad will now begin preparation for next month's NCAA Super Regionals. Glenville is currently ranked 18th in the latest NCAA InterMat Poll. They will travel to Indianapolis next Saturday.
