GSU Men's Basketball Concludes Two Game Home Stretch Against Fairmont State

Glenville, W.Va. - Glenville State Men's Basketball team concludes their two-game home stretch against the Falcons of Fairmont State University. Both squads sit in the top half of the Mountain East Conference Standings. A win in Wednesday's conference matchup can create history for the Pioneers.

A Look at Your Pioneers 
 
In recent series history the Pioneers have fallen to Fairmont State seven out of the last ten games. The last win for the GSU was early on this season where Glenville defeated the #24 Falcons in a close battle. Glenville State will have a chance to sweep the regular season series with Fairmont State for the first time since the 2013-14 campaign.  
 
The Pioneers are coming off a close 97-93 loss to Notre Dame College. Jordan Turbo Smith led the Pioneers in scoring once again with 26 points. Junior Jacquez Yow was close behind with 18 and grabbed five rebounds. While GSU made seven threes in the first half, in the final half of play Glenville only made two.  
 
As a whole, Glenville State currently holds eleventh spot in the nation for the highest-scoring offense. On average the Pioneers are scoring 87.3 points per game. In the Mountain East Conference, GSU sits third for points allowed per contest allowing 78.5 points per game.

A Look at Fairmont State 
 
Fairmont State enters Wednesday's game second in the conference standings. The Falcons are one of the hottest teams in the country riding an eight-game win streak. During their winning streak, Fairmont has defeated two nationally ranked opponents: #8 West Liberty and #24 West Virginia State.  
 
The Falcons are coming off a ten-point victory over the Golden Eagles of the University of Charleston. In the first half, Fairmont State was lights out from beyond the arc shooting 50% from three. While three-pointers stop falling in the second half FSU held on to defeat UC 83-73. Isaiah Sanders led the Falcons in scoring with 17 while shooting an efficient 7-11 from the field.   
 
FSU has been averaging around 93 points per game which has them sitting second in the league for points per game. The Falcons also rank towards the top of the conference in team free throw percentage. While Fairmont State is only attempting 16.7 free throws per contest, they are shooting 76.7% from the charity stripe.
