Glenville State Men’s Basketball Team Hosts Penn State Beaver

Glenville, W.Va. - Glenville State Men's Basketball team is set to host Penn State Beaver before resuming conference play. The Pioneers have already faced PSUAC foe this season in Penn State Mont Alto. In the November matchup, the Pioneers defeated the Nittany Lions 82-38. Monday's matchup is the first Division II  Penn State Beaver has faced this season.

A Look at Penn State Beaver

Penn State Beaver enters Monday's contest with a (1-12) overall record and (0-8) in conference play. The Nittany Lions before entering the new year picked up their first win of the season against Kent State Tuscarawas. In eight games that Penn State Beaver has played in have been decided by ten or fewer points.

The Nittany Lions are coached by Brian Bibey enters his seventh season as head coach. Before the 2020-21 season was canceled, Penn State Beaver under Coach Bibey made the PSUAC Conference Tournament  in back-to-back season. During Coach Bibey's tenure the Nittany Lions have been known as a defensive minded team. 

As a team Penn State Beaver is averaging 57.4 points per game this season. The Nittany Lions have shot efficiently from the field this season but are only shooting 25.3% from three. On average Penn State Beaver is only hitting 3.4 threes per game. In conference play the Nittany Lions are turning over the ball 17 times a game.

Senior Devon Johnson leads Penn State Beaver in scoring this season producing 16.4 points per game. Forward Izaiah Dickerson has provided Nittany Lions a scoring threat in the post averaging 15.1 points per contest. The Senior Forward has also been productive on the defensive end of the court averaging 11.1 rebounds a game. Both Dickerson and Johnson have played the most minutes for Penn State Beaver.

A Look at Your Pioneers

The Pioneers enter the Monday night's matchup with a (7-6) overall record and (4-4) in the Mountain East Conference. Glenville is coming off a hard fought loss against the No. 9 Hilltoppers of West Liberty. Coach Caldwell's squad tested the Toppers until the very end.

GSU continues to have one of the best turnover margins in the conference. On average the Pioneers are winning the turnover battle by 4.1 turnovers a game. With Glenville producing 9.6 steals per contest it has lead to the Pioneers forcing 17.6 turnovers per game which is 22nd in the nation. GSU has become one the offenses in the nation. Glenville State through 13 games are producing 88.3 points per game.

Jordan Turbo Smith has been an overall offensive threat for the Pioneers scoring a team high 18.8 points per contest and accounting for 4.5 assists. Turbo's 18.8 points per game ranks third in the MEC. Both Freddie Word and Jacquez Yow are averaging just over 15 points per game. Word a native of Fort Myers, Fla.has been GSU's best defensive rebounder producing 5.7 rebounds per contest which is fifth in the MEC. The Pioneers most effective rebounder on the offensive end has been Harrison Eghan. Eghan on three separate occasions has produced ten or more rebounds.
