Preview: Women’s Basketball to Host No. 20 Fairmont State, Travel to Frostburg State this Week

GLENVILLE, W.Va. - Glenville State Women's Basketball will host nationally ranked Fairmont State tomorrow evening (Dec. 6) and then travel to Frostburg State on Saturday (Dec. 9). The Lady Pioneers recently fell out of the WBCA Coaches Poll.

THE OPPONENTS 
FAIRMONT STATE 
The 20th ranked Fighting Falcons enter (7-0, 4-0 MEC) following a 2-0 week with wins over West Virginia State and Charleston.  

Stephanie Anderson is in her fifth season leading the FSU WBB program. Anderson took over after spending five seasons as an assistant coach. Last year, Anderson led the Falcons to 23 victories which was the most since the 2014-15 season. During her time as an assistant, she helped lead Fairmont State to the MEC Tournament Championship game in 2017. Anderson played collegiately at California (Pa.). 

Alyss DeAngelo has proved to be one of the top players in the conference, entering tomorrow's game averaging 23.0 PPG, 2.3 APG, 2.0 RPG and 1.4 SPG. The All-Region performer is one of five scorers on the squad that is averaging double figures as Katy Darnell (15.1 PPG), Jalen Gibbs (12.4 PPG), Madeline Huffman (11.3 PPG) and Leslie Huffman (11.1 PPG) are aiding the Falcon offense. On the boards, Gibbs is grabbing 7.6 RPG while also blocking 1.3 shots per game. Madeline Huffman is the leader in assists at 4.6 APG. 

FROSTBURG STATE 
The Bobcats come in (4-3, 3-1 MEC) after defeating Charleston 71-57 on Wednesday but falling to West Virginia State 85-79 on Saturday. 

Jenna Eckleberry is in her second season as Head Coach of the Bobcats. In her first year leading the program, she led them to nine wins and their first MEC Tournament berth in program history. Eckleberry came to FSU after an eight-year stint at Shepherd where she won 118 games and advanced to the Round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament twice. Prior to becoming a HC, she found her footing in the MEC as the top assistant coach at Fairmont State for seven seasons. 

Emilee Weakley leads the nation in scoring at 29.0 PPG, grabbing 5.5 RPG as well. Weakley is accompanied by Maggie Sharp's 13.1 PPG and Jenna Muha's near double-double at 11.4 PPG and 9.6 RPG. Alanna Tate leads the team in assists at 2.9 APG while putting together 11.0 PPG.  

THE LADY PIONEERS 
GLENVILLE STATE 

The Lady Pioneers enter the new week (6-2, 2-1 MEC), defeating Notre Dame College and Salem last week. Earlier in the week, GSU fell to Pitt-Johnstown on the road. 

Hya Haywood is first on the team in scoring at 19.0 PPG with Lauren Calhoun posting 14.9 PPG and 7.7 RPG. Haywood's 3.3 SPG leads the aggressive defensive attack for the Lady Pioneers. Chalon Miles is the final double-digit scorer with 10.5 PPG. Sanaiya Morris (2.6 APG), Esther Oluade (2.4 APG) and Haywood (2.0 APG) are the leading passers on the team.
