GSU Track & Field Finish 7th at MEC Indoor Championship

Huntington, W.Va. - Glenville State Pioneer Track Field Indoor season comes to an end at the 2023 Mountain East Conference Indoor and Track and Field Championship. The men placed 7th as a team, along with the women.

Meet Highlights

Koschinya Jefferson had a strong showing in the pentathlon. The Junior from Newport News, Va. finished second in the event only behind West Virginia Wesleyan's Samantha Cash. Jefferson would set a new meet record in the Pentathlon shot put. Koschinya also set a new school record at the MEC Championships. In the 200-meter dash Jefferson with a time of 25.68 placed sixth in her eighth event of the weekend. Once again freshman Jannel Mitchell broke her own in the 800 running a 2:26.

On the Men's side, Travis Hill had a solid performance in the heptathlon. Hill was able to total 4,491 points to take third and earn all-conference honors. The Sophomore from Onsted, Mich. did set a new meet record in the heptathlon pole vault clearing 4.6 meters. In the weight throw Christian Hanna and Michael Clay both qualified for the finals. During the finals, Hanna had a new personal best with a throw of 14.5 meters and placed fifth.
