Lady Pioneers Close out the Regular Season against Concord University

Glenville, W.Va. - Glenville State Women's Basketball team travels to Concord University to close out the 2022-23 regular season. The Lady Pioneers have been on a tear winning their last ten. While GSU has locked up the #1 seed for the MEC Tournament, the #1 spot in the region is still up for grabs.

A Look at your Lady Pioneers 

Coach Stephens's squad has already faced the Mountain Lions once this season. Glenville was able to come out on top 78-69 despite only forcing 15 turnovers. A monster performance by Breanna Campbell and solid shooting from the charity stripe helped Glenville secure the win.

In the Lady Pioneers' last time out they were able to secure the win against the University of Charleston. While the contest started out as a slugfest, Glenville forced 34 turnovers. GSU has now forced 30 or more turnovers on 12 separate occasions. 

Glenville State throughout the season has been a solid team on both sides of the ball. The Lady Pioneers are holding teams to 66.9 points per game which is second in the Mountain East Conference. GSU continues to rack up points producing 87.7 points per contest ranking them second in the nation for points per game.

  • 19: Hya Haywood was one point away from a career-high against Charleston. 
  • 4: On four separate occasions Aline Fevrier has graded ten or more rebounds.
  • 84: Mickayla Perdue has made the sixth most threes in all of Division II.
  • 12: The Lady Pioneers have hit 10 or more threes on 12 separate occasions.
  • 17.5: Breanna Campbell sits sixth in the conference for points per game. 

A Look at the Mountain Lions

Since the first meeting between these two squads, Concord has picked up seven conference wins. With the Mountain Lions sitting three games back of Wheeling and three in front of Frostburg State, Concord sits comfortably in seventh in the standings. If the season ended today CU would face Notre Dame College in the conference tournament. 

Coach Southcott's Mountain Lions are coming off an 82-71 victory against West Virginia State. While State would shoot 85 times, Concord held the Yellow Jackets to 30.6% shooting from the field. Maggie Guynn led CU in scoring with 18 and grabbed four rebounds.

Concord this season has been a solid rebounding team this season. The Mountain Lions are out-rebounding teams by 4.4 rebounds per game which is second in the conference. CU also has been one of the better teams in the MEC at getting to the free throw line. On average Concord is attempting 21.1 free throws per game.

  • 17: Maddie Ratcliff had a season-high in points for the Mountain Lions. 
  • 80.4%: Maggie Guynn has been Concord's best free throw shooter this season.
  • 213: Abbie Smith has grabbed the seventh most rebounds in the conference.
  • 18.9: Concord averages the eight most turnovers in the MEC.
  • 53: Jaisah Smithsits sixth in the conference for total steals this season.
