Pioneer Wrestling Gears Up for NCAA Super Regionals

2/24/2023 9:20:00 PM

Tiffin, Ohio – Glenville State's Wrestling squad continues their historic season on Saturday, competing the NCAA Super Region III. The event will determine what individual wrestlers will advance on to NCAA Nationals in two weeks, and is being hosted by Tiffin University. The matches begin at 9:00 AM in Tiffin's Heminger Center.

Last Season, Glenville placed second in the Mountain East Conference Championships, and followed that with a sixth place finish at the Super Regionals. It was only the second year of the program's resurrection. Head Coach Dylan Cottrell was named to Regional Coach of the Year for the team's rapid ascension.

This season, Glenville was again runner-up at the MEC's, but this year's squad has been a mainstay in the D-II National Rankings. Currently, the Pioneers are ranked 18th in the nation (in the latest InterMat poll). They are one of three Super Region III teams in the poll (West Liberty is 4th, and Ashland 21st).

Glenville enters Saturday with four wrestlers nationally ranked within their weight classes; Jared Campbell in the Heavyweight Division (3rd), Cole Houser at 184 (8th), Gavin Quiocho at 133 (10th), and Hunter DeLong at 174 (12th). The rest of the GSU lineup includes Devin Easton at 125, Ethan Hardy at 141, Tristan Pugh at 157, Guy DeLeonardis at 165, and Devin Gauldin at 197.

Wrestlers that advance on the NCAA Nationals, will compete in the D-II marquee event on March 10-11 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
