MARS HILL, NC --- Glenville State's Acrobatics & Tumbling Team of Head Coach Taylor Broadwater earned a hard-fought road victory at Mars Hill University on Tuesday night, defeating the Mountain Lions 248.49-233.24. It was a battle of two young programs that are vastly improved over 2022.
Â
Glenville established an early lead in Compulsories, leading 34.90-34.70. They were able to extend this lead by halftime, by gaining six points in the Acro event and six in the Pyramid. After intermission, they gained three points in the toss, with Mars Hill matching them, as both teams performed well in the tumbling heats. Going into the Team Event finale with a 13-point lead, Glenville was able to successfully close the victory with an 88.29 score in the Team presentation.
Â
Overall, the 248-point performance may well have been the most impressive performance of the year for the young Pioneers and of Coach Broadwater's tenure at her alma mater. Due to some unforeseen circumstances, Broadwater had to make an assortment of lineup and strategic changes immediately before the competition. The coach and team battled through this adversity to post their third highest score of the campaign, and tally an important road victory.
Â
Glenville's squad returns to action on March 19, hosting Stevenson at the Waco Center. The dual meet begins at 2:00 PM.
