GSU Acrobatics and Tumbling Gear up For MEC Championships

Glenville, W.Va. - Glenville State Acrobatics and Tumbling are set to compete in the 2023 Mountain East Conference Championships. The Lady Pioneers have not qualified for the championship meet since the 2019 season. GSU will be traveling north to the host institution Frostburg State. 

Coach Broadwater's squad opens with a dual against the #1 seed Frostburg State on Friday, April 15th. The Lady Pioneers have already faced the Bobcats once this season. GSU to end the 2023 regular season fell to Frostburg in a close one 258.670-257.415.

From the opening event, it would be a battle with only 0.35 points separating each team after the Compulsory. Glenville heading into the half where able to produce a lead with strong performances in the Inversion and Open Pyramid. In the Pyramid Event, GSU scored a 28.95 only missing out on a possible 0.65 points.  

Frostburg with multiple solid performances in the tumbling portion of the meet swung the momentum back in their favor. While the Lady Pioneers outscored the Bobcats in the Team Event, GSU fell just short. 

Glenville State will also have student-athletes competing in the individual event finals. In total, the Lady Pioneers have qualified in nine individual events. GSU in the Acro Event has qualified for all three heats. 

GSU's Open Pyramid squad of Hannah Cunningham, Delaney Rosales, Mackenzie Bathe, and Abigail McDermott have the made the event finals along with the Inversion Pyramid unit. Since posting a 9.90 against Stevenson Cunningham, Rosales, Bathe, and McDermott have been on a tear scoring a 9.80 or better in the last two.

The 450 Salto Toss, Synchronized Toss, Open Toss, and Duo Tumbling squads wrap up the individual event qualifiers.
