GLENVILLE, W.Va. - Glenville State Football hits the road this week following their huge 24-21 win at home over Notre Dame College this past weekend. The Pioneers will travel to Institute to take on West Virginia State in a nighttime MEC battle.

WEST VIRGINIA STATE YELLOW JACKETS
The Yellow Jackets enter (2-1, 2-0 MEC) and are winners in their last two games. WVSU opened up with a narrow loss at Division I FCS Morehead State 37-35 but bounced back with two-straight MEC wins against UNC Pembroke 37-35 at home and a 47-27 victory on the road at Concord.
John Pennington is in his seventh season leading the WVSU football program. Hired in 2017, Pennington led the Yellow Jackets to their first winning season in a decade in year one. Prior to being named HC, he spent one season in 2010 as the Special Teams Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach at WVSU and held a variety of positions on the Concord staff from 2011-2014. After CU, Pennington returned to WVSU in 2015 as the OC and QB Coach. He played collegiately at West Virginia University.
The offense has been on a tear to start the season, averaging 39.7 PPG in their first three games. Donovan Riddick has completed an astonishing 75% of his passes (72-96) for 744 passing yards and seven touchdowns to just one interception. Riddick also has a touchdown on the ground. The running game is led by Joel Felder, a 5-11 junior who has rushed for 428 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 142.7 rushing YPG. In the receiving game, three wideouts have 100+ receiving yards. Javion Monroe is the featured receiver, leading the team with 169 yards and 11 grabs. Joe Jones has been a reliable redzone threat, totaling three touchdowns.
Defensive lineman Nazir Jones and defensive back Avery Scott are at the top of the tackle leaders on the team as both have 16 so far. The secondary has been a busy group, grabbing five interceptions so far. Jy Martin is one of the more busy players in the secondary, being one of two players with two interceptions and leads the team in forced fumbles with two

The Pioneers come in (2-0, 1-0 MEC) after beginning the season with a 44-9 non-conference win at Northwood (Mich.) and opening conference play with a 24-21 win against Notre Dame College on Saturday.
Anthony Garrett has thrown for 416 yards and three touchdowns through the first two games of the season. Alfred Menjor leads the ground attack with 105 yards rushing, followed by Saeed Galloway's 84 yards and one touchdown. Receiving wise, Orion Bonner is atop the team leaderboard in receiving yards with 163 and 12 catches. Concord transfer Zion Barnette has meshed in nicely, being second on the team in catches with eight and receiving yards with 88. He also has a touchdown reception.
Seth Arnold is coming of a 14-tackle performance against NDC, earning MEC Defensive Player of the Week and putting his tackle total to 19 on the season to lead the defense. Marshall transfer Brogan Brown is second on the team with 11 but leads the team in TFL with 2.5. Five different Pioneers have pulled in an interception and Tank Gant has two defensive touchdowns on the season.
