GLENVILLE, W.Va. - The Glenville State Football team fell to the University of Charleston this afternoon at Morris Stadium 52-17. The Golden Eagles forced four Pioneer turnovers and had 399 total yards of offense.
1st Quarter
Glenville State attempted to go for a fourth and short at their own 33 on their first drive of the game but would be stuffed at the line of scrimmage. On Charleston's first drive, they also went for it on fourth down and were unsuccessful. With the ball at the UC two-yard line, the Pioneers were stuffed on three straight plays and an attempted pass to the back of the endzone was tipped at the line to force the turnover on downs. The game stayed at 0-0 going into the 2nd Quarter.
2nd Quarter
Charleston put up a touchdown on their first drive of the new quarter, driving 88 yards for the score. GSU answered with a field goal on their next drive by Brody Layman. After falling back to a 3rd and 30, the Golden Eagles converted on 4th and 18 and eventually turned the drive into a field goal, bumping their lead back up to seven. In the last 2:44, UC would score three touchdowns on 36-yard touchdown by Javonte Howard, a fake run that turned into a four-yard TD pass by Chavon Wright and a 26-yard pick six by Aden Miller.
Stats At The Half
UC had 145 passing yards as a team in the 2nd Quarter after having zero in the opening quarter. They also picked off the Pioneers twice in the 1st Half.
3rd Quarter
Charleston opened the 2nd Half with a touchdown drive that was capped off by a 15-yard touchdown pass to Tae Marrero, making it a 38-3 game. The following drives by both teams were stale until the Golden Eagles found the endzone again to increase their already large lead before the end of the quarter.
4th Quarter
The Pioneers finally got back on the scoreboard during the opening drive of the last quarter as Gunner Murphy found Dylan Day for a 13-yard touchdown. In the next Pioneer drive, Jamie Diven threw a deep ball to Day down the sideline and Day was able to make a catch over the defender, scoring his second touchdown in as many drives.
The Final Stats
Anthony Garrett went 15 for 28 with two interceptions. Gunner Murphy (3-3, 60 yards) and Jamie Diven (3-6, 58 yards, one TD) also saw action behind center. Dylan Day had 85 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown to lead the Pioneers, followed by Tariq Miller's 73 yards on five receptions performance. Defensively, Seth Arnold led the team with six total tackles.
Javonte Howard had three touchdowns on 12-24 passing and 209 yards. On the ground, Chavon Wright ran the ball 13 times for 79 yards and two touchdowns. Alex Brink added 81 yards on 10 carries as well. UC had two 80+ yard receivers as Marquan Herron (three receptions, 88 yards, one TD) and Yves Bosmans (five receptions, 84 yards, one TD) led the receiving core. Willie Floyd ended the game with eight tackles, all solo which made him the team leader. Aden Miller and Tri'mayal Cash both had an interception as Miller's was a pick six.

Glenville State will be on the road next Saturday as they travel to West Liberty for a MEC battle at 1 p.m.
