DANIELS.W.Va. – The Glenville State's Women's Golf team opened their 2023 campaign this week, closing Wednesday's final round of the Glade Springs Kickoff Tournament. Coach Mike McGarry's GSU squad finished atop the leaderboard with an identical 36-hole team score of 642 with the University of Charleston, but the Golden Eagles captured the team title off the scorecard playoff (going to the fifth score).
After the tight GSU-UC battle, UVA-Wise was third at 681 and D&E fourth at 735. There were eight teams in the tournament's women's field.
Hailey Hendershott led the Pioneers with a two-round total 153 (76-77), finishing in the top spot of the 43-player field. Teammate Lizzie Bickar fired a solid 75 on Wednesday, vaulting into second place for the tournament (82-75 – 157). The remainder of Glenville's strong lineup included Kendall Wall (79-86 – 165), Lexis Fickel (79-88 – 167), and Rebekah Sugalski (90-88 – 178).

Glenville resumes the season next week, traveling to the Edgewood Country Club. The event will be hosted by the University of Charleston September 10-12.
