GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Glenville State Football looks to spoil Concord's homecoming on Saturday (Oct. 19), as the Pioneers will make the trip to Athens for a Mountain East Conference battle. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. inside Callaghan Stadium.

2024 Season
The Mountain Lions are having a rough start to the season coming into this week's matchup at (0-6, 0-4 MEC) after losing 44-14 to West Virginia State on Saturday.
Head Coach
Brian Ferguson is coaching his second season as the Head Coach of the Mountain Lions. Ferguson served as Concord's offensive coordinator for three seasons prior where he directed one of Division II's top offenses in 2022. The Mountain Lions finished top 10 nationally in points per game (39.0), yards per game (487.7), passing yards per game (333.4), passing touchdowns (39) and total touchdown (60).
Mountain Lions Offense
Blayne Ferguson leads the Mountain Lions offense at the Quarterback position on the season as he has 713 passing yards and two touchdowns on the season. At wide out, CU is led by Marcus Striggles, who has 283 receiving yards and one touchdown. On the ground, the Mountain Lions are spearheaded by TJ Finney with 190 rushing yards. Some other notable offensive players for Concord are Jakari Clark (147 receiving yards), Zion Odoms (146 receiving yards and one touchdown) and Jaden Judge (128 rushing yards and one touchdown).
Mountain Lions Defense
The Mountain Lions defense is led by Ryker Brown with 49 total tackles (28 solo) and six tackles for loss. Vonte Powell leads the team in sacks with two. Kendall Bournes has Concord's solo interception on the season. Some other notable players on defense for Concord are Nehemiah Scott (25 solo tackles, three TFL and four breakups) and Jamari Smith (22 solo tackles, 3.5 TFL, one sack and one forced fumble and recovery).
Mountain Lions Special Teams
Josh Hutley has made three of four field goals this season with the longest being 38 yards. Hutley is also the punter for the Mountain Lions and has punted for 1,365 yards with his longest punt being 69 yards. Jeremiah Valdry is averaging 24.5 yards per kickoff return.
THE PIONEERS

2024 Season
The Pioneers enter (2-4, 2-2 MEC) following another nationally ranked loss last week, this time coming to No. 24 Frostburg State, 41-9.
Pioneers Offense
Offensively, the Pioneers are led by their rushing attack.
Markquan Rucker and
Zavione Wood have combined for over 600 yards on the ground. Quarterback
Anthony Garrett is looking to bounce back against the Mountain Lions as Garrett has thrown for eight touchdowns on the year and averages 141 passing yards per game.
Tariq Miller has been steady at the receiver position, gathering four touchdowns and 372 yards on the year.
Naseem Pacheco has chipped in with 154 yards receiving and
Elijah Palmer has also scored a receiving touchdown.
Pioneers Defense
Defensively,
Shaun Sterling Jr. has been the leader of the unit. Sterling has been excelling in both the run and passing games with 40 total tackles, two interceptions and one pass breakup. The Pioneer secondary welcomed back veteran and All-MEC performer
Brandon Penn from injury and he had a tackle in the game against Frostburg State. At linebacker,
Hayden Moore is leading the room in tackles with 31 and he also has recorded 2.5 tackles for loss and one sack. On the edge,
Jamair Diaz has been a force with eight TFL's and 5.5 sacks (7
th in NCAA DII). On the interior,
Isaiah Macklin has recorded 23 total tackles, 2.5 TFL's, and one sack.
Pioneers Special Teams
Zander Watson has been consistently pinning teams deep when the punt team has been on the field as he had three punts inside the opponents 20-yard line last week.
Brody Layman made two kicks last week, however one was negated by penalty.
