2024 Season
The Golden Eagles come into this game (4-0, 2-0 MEC) after beating Concord, 42-7, on Saturday. Charleston is currently ranked 16
th in the country.
Head Coach
Quinn Sanders is in his third season as the HC of the Golden Eagles. Last season, Sanders led UC to 10 wins, an NCAA DII Playoff victory and an appearance to the Super Region One Second Round. The (10-2) Golden Eagles won the 2023 Mountain East Conference Championship as well.
Golden Eagles Offense
Ean Hamric steps in to lead the Golden Eagles due to Javonte Howard being injured. This season, Hamric has played two games and has 165 passing yards and three touchdowns. Charleston's ground game is led by Chavon Wright with 642 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns on the season. Yves Bosmans is UC's leading receiver with 320 receiving yards and five touchdowns. Some other notable offensive players for Charleston are Marquan Herron (193 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns), Jadus Davis (133 rushing yards and 1 touchdown) and Shamarr Wright (123 receiving yards).
Golden Eagles Defense
Defensively, the Golden Eagles are led by Andrew Chamblee, who leads the team in solo tackles (14), tackles for loss (9), and sacks (2). Louikenzy Jules leads the team in interceptions with three on the season. Some other notable defensive players for Charleston are Willie Floyd (11 solo tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, 1 sack), Aden Miller (11 solo tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss), and Ra'Shaad Morris (nine solo tackles and two interceptions).
Golden Eagles Special Teams
Levi Paxton is 3-4 in field goal kicks for the Golden Eagles this season with his longest being 45 yards. Hayden Pack, the punter for the Golden Eagles, has eleven punts on the season for 407 yards. His longest punt was 51 yards. Shamarr Wright is averaging 33 yards on kick returns.
THE PIONEERS

2024 Season
The Pioneers are coming off two big wins against Fairmont State and UNC Pembroke, bringing their record to (2-2, 2-0 MEC) and are looking to knock off another nationally ranked foe under Head Coach
Mike Kellar, who has found the winning formula for the 2024 Pioneers these past few weeks. The Pioneers have been relying heavily on the rushing attack on offense, and a swarming defense that has been taking the ball away. The Pioneers are looking to avenge a 52-17 loss at the hands of the Golden Eagles last year.
Pioneers Offense
At Quarterback,
Anthony Garrett has been efficient, hovering around 50% completion percentage, 500 yards and five touchdowns. At running back, the Pioneers feature multiple rushers with
Zavione Wood and
Markquan Rucker. Rucker is averaging 65 yards per game and has scored a touchdown. Wood has tallied over 200 yards rushing on the season and has added over 50 yards receiving. In the receiver room, the Pioneers are led by
Tariq Miller with three touchdowns on the year and is averaging 38 yards a game while
Naseem Pacheco has reeled in 13 catches.
Pioneers Defense
Defensively, GSU has been anchored by defensive back
Shaun Sterling Jr. The senior has racked up 31 total tackles and four TFL's to go along with two interceptions and one pass breakup. Other notable defenders include former Bridgeport standout
Hayden Moore with 23 tackles and 2.5 TFL's,
Sean Scott with 20 tackles, four TFL's, one INT, one PBU and a fumble recovery. On the edge,
Jamair Diaz has tallied 17 tackles, 5.5 TFL's and two QB hurries. Along the interior,
Isaiah Macklin has made an impact with 11 tackles and 1.5 TFL's.
Pioneers Special Teams
The Pioneer specialists have been solid thus far, with
Zander Watson averaging almost 40 yards per punt and pinning four punts inside the 20 yard line.
Brody Layman has been consistent as he has not missed on extra point try all year. In the return game, Miller has been a spark on punt return and
Jeremiah King has been consistent all year returning kicks, averaging 28 yards per return.
