Game Preview #6: Football to Host No. 24 Frostburg State for Homecoming

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Glenville State Football will host #24 Frostburg State for the Pioneers homecoming game on Saturday (Oct. 12) as the two teams meet after the Pioneers spoiled the Bobcats chances of making the DII Playoffs in 2023. Kickoff is slated for 1:30 p.m. at Morris Stadium.

THE OPPONENT
FROSTBURG STATE

2024 Season
The Bobcats comes into this week's matchup (5-0, 3-0 MEC) after beating West Virginia Wesleyan 49-16 on Sunday. Frostburg State is currently ranked 24th in the country.

Head Coach
Eric Wagoner is in his third season as Head Coach for Frostburg State. In two and a half years at FSU, Wagoner has a (20-6) overall record while finishing second and third in the league.

Bobcats Offense
Myles Fulton leads the Bobcat on offense at the Quarterback position. On the season, Fulton has 1,159 passing yards and 14 touchdowns. The ground game is led by Owen Doyle, who has 438 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. Amari N'namdi-Hall leads the Bobcats receiving core with 346 receiving yards. Some other notable offensive players for Frostburg are Trashaun Timmons (277 receiving yards and three touchdowns), Jeremiah Gibson (240 receiving yards and three touchdowns) and Jordan Marcucci (203 receiving yards and two touchdowns).

Bobcats Defense
On the defensive side of the ball, the Bobcats are led by Yasir Holmes, who has 19 solo tackles, 8 tackles for loss, and 4.5 sacks. Four different Bobcats have an interception apiece on the season. Some other notable defensive players for Frostburg are Jaylen Boyd (15 solo tackles, 3 TFL, 1.5 sacks and one INT), Leonard Scott (13 solo tackles, 8.5 TFL and 3.5 sacks), and Rob Jackson (5 solo tackles, 3.5 TFL and 1.5 sacks).

Bobcats Special Teams
Brandon Keen is 4-6 on field goals this season with his longest being 42 yards. Sam Dominguez has 18 punts for 712 yards with his longest punt going 61 yards. Jordan Marcucci is averaging 27 yards per kick return for the Bobcats.

THE PIONEERS
GLENVILLE STATE

2024 Season
The Pioneers enter (2-3, 2-1 MEC) after suffering their first conference loss at the hands of nationally ranked Charleston. The top-15 ranked Golden Eagles won 29-17 in the capital city.

Pioneers Offense
Glenville State's rushing attack has been the driving force offensively as Markquan Rucker is averaging 65 yards per game and Zavione Wood has chipped in over 230 yards. At receiver, Tariq Miller has been a reliable playmaker with four touchdowns and over 300 yards. At quarterback, Anthony Garrett averages 140 yards per game and has thrown for seven touchdowns.

Pioneers Defense
The Pioneer defense has been solid, allowing just 24 points per game. Shaun Sterling Jr. has been steady with 35 total tackles and two interceptions. Hayden Moore, senior linebacker, has been a downhill player, totaling 29 tackles and 2.5 TFL's. Jamair Diaz has been a force off the edge with 20 tackles and 5.5 TFL's and 4.5 sacks. On the interior, Isaiah Macklin has 19 total tackles and 1.5 TFL.

Pioneers Special Teams
At returner, Jeremiah King is waiting to break the big one as he is averaging 27 yards per return. Brody Layman added a 31-yard field goal last week. Zander Watson is averaging 39 yards per punt.
