Homet Defeats D1 Nationally Ranked Wrestler as Pioneers Fall to No. 18 West Virginia in Morgantown

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Glenville State Wrestling team lost their first dual of the 2024-25 season tonight at No. 18 West Virginia. The Division 1, Big 12 member defeated the Pioneers, 35-10.

GSU fell behind early, losing three (133, 141 and 149) of the first five matches to nationally ranked opponents. The blue and white saw an All-American and three NCAA qualifiers as well in those first five matches. Gaetano DeLeonardis put the Pioneers on the board with a win in the 165-pound match while Kyle Homet (184) won by decision over the 23rd ranked wrestler in Division 1, Ian Bush. Nick Johnson picked up a win at 197 to close out the night for GSU.

Up Next For The Pioneers
The Pioneers are back on the road on Sunday (Nov. 9), traveling to D1 Morgan State.
