Preview: Women's Basketball to Play Preseason MEC Top Teams

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Glenville State Lady Pioneers have two games scheduled this week, the first being a road contest at Fairmont State on Wednesday (Dec. 11) and the second being a home matchup with Frostburg State on Sunday (Dec. 15).

THE OPPONENTS
FAIRMONT STATE
2024-25 Season
The Falcons are (7-2) coming into this week with a (3-1) conference record. FSU has won three in a row, last losing on Nov. 23 at West Virginia State.

Head Coach
Stephanie Anderson is in her sixth season as the HC of the Fighting Falcons. Last season, she led Fairmont State to an MEC championship and an NCAA Tournament berth, winning 27 games before having their season ended in the semifinals of the NCAA Atlantic Regional Tournament. Before last season, Anderson won 23 games in 2022-23, which was the highest win total in nearly 10 years.

Leslie Huffman leads the Falcons with 17.3 points per game with Alyssa DeAngelo averaging 15.7 and Jalen Gibbs averaging 14.4. Huffman has been lethal from deep, shooting 45% from beyond the arc, while also leading the team in rebounding with 6.7 per game.

FROSTBURG STATE
2024-25 Season
The Bobcats are currently (6-3) with a (3-1) conference mark, picking up victories over Charleston and West Virginia State last week. FSU will square off with Concord tomorrow (Dec. 11) before facing off with the Lady Pioneers on Sunday. 

Head Coach
Jenna Eckleberry is in her third season leading the Bobcats. Eckleberry won 18 games last year and took home MEC Coach of the Year while also coaching the nation's leading scorer in Emilee Weakley. She came to Frostburg after a successful stint at Shepherd, coaching the Rams to the NCAA Tournament and 25 victories in 2021-22.

Emilee Weakley comes in averaging almost 30 points a game to lead the nation while shooting 40% from three and also averaging 7.6 rebounds to lead the team. Taylor Smith has been running the point for FSU as she has 43 assists so far on the year and is second on the team in scoring with close to nine points per contest.

THE PIONEERS
GLENVILLE STATE
2024-25 Season
The Lady Pioneers enter the week (7-2, 2-1 MEC) and are winners of their last three games, including a 120-point performance against Salem their last time out. 

Quick Look at The Lady Pioneers
Tynasia Bunting continues to fill up the stat sheet as she is averaging 15.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 2.4 steals. Dream Cherry has been a sharpshooter for the Lady Pioneers as she is shooting 37% from the three-point line and averaging 13 points per game. Nwando Okigbo averages 11.3 points per game and also grabs nine rebounds a night to lead the team. Kenyah Stubbs and Stevi Yancy both have 21 total assists to lead the team in the assists category while freshman Ashlyn Riley averages eight points a game to go along with five rebounds and 22 steals.
