THE OPPONENTS
DAVIS & ELKINS
The Senators enter (2-18, 1-13 MEC) and have lost 12 in a row, picking up their last victory on Dec. 9 at Salem.
Dionna Carr is in her second season leading the Senators WBB program. In her first season, Davis & Elkins went (7-20, 7-15 MEC) and appeared in the First Round of the MEC Tournament. Carr came to D&E after a successful two-year stint at Hillsborough Community College in Florida. She was a three-year starter at the University of South Carolina in her playing days.
Taylor Smith is the only Senator averaging double figures, scoring 11.5 PPG. Smith also leads the team in assists (2.2 APG) and steals (1.4 SPG). Jackie Wright is only scoring 4.6 PPG but she leads D&E in rebounding at 5.1 RPG.
WEST VIRGINIA WESLEYAN
The Bobcats come in (7-12, 4-10 MEC), winning five of their last six. WVWC completed last week with an overtime victory over West Liberty 87-81.
Brett Vincent is in his third season as HC of the Bobcats. WVWC won five games last season, four coming in conference play but the Bobcats would barely miss out on a shot at the MEC Tournament. Before taking over at West Virginia Wesleyan, Vincent spent nine seasons leading the Chowan Men's Basketball program, becoming the Hawks' all-time wins leader.
Emma Witt is the leading scorer at 13.5 PPG, followed by Sydney Baird's 11.7 PPG and Shelby Genes' 10.1 PPG. Desiree Roy leads the team in rebounds, grabbing 7.5 RPG while adding 6.9 PPG. Baird dishes out 2.9 APG to lead the Bobcats.
THE LADY PIONEERS
GLENVILLE STATE
The Lady Pioneers enter the new week (15-7, 8-6 MEC) after splitting last week's games against Salem (W, 82-78) and Notre Dame College (L, 94-86).
Hya Haywood had 28 points in Saturday's loss to NDC, putting her scoring average to 17.0 PPG. Haywood's 2.8 APG and 3.0 SPG also leads the team. Lauren Calhoun is first on the team in rebounding (7.6 RPG) while averaging 15.0 PPG. Chalon Miles (10.4 PPG) and Dream Cherry (8.7 PPG) aid the offensive efforts for the Lady Pioneers.
