GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Glenville State Football looks to get things rolling after their bye week and pick up their first win in this rivalry matchup against Fairmont State on Thursday (Sept. 19). Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. at Duvall-Rosier Field.

THE OPPONENT
FAIRMONT STATE
2024 Season
Fairmont State comes in with a (1-1) record after defeating Seton Hill on opening day but falling to Bloomsburg in their last contest by a score of 35-7. Both teams are coming into the game off their bye week.
Head Coach
Luke Barker is in his first year as head coach at Fairmont State. Barker was previously the offensive coordinator at the University of Charleston, helping lead the Golden Eagles to an MEC title and an appearance in the NCAA DII Playoffs.
Falcons Offense
The Falcons offense is an aerial attack led by quarterback Will Adkins (Sr.), and leading receiver Gage Michael (Jr.). Adkins received MEC Offensive Player of the Week for his week one performance. So far, Adkins has tallied 475 passing yards to go along with four touchdowns and one interception. Michael has 10 receptions for 163 yards with one touchdown. On the ground, the Falcons are paced by junior running back Dereik Crosby II. Crosby has carried the ball 18 times for 119 yards, for an average of 6.6 yards per carry and one touchdown. Other key players on offense for the Falcons are Winston Page (four catches, 62 yards and one TD), Leonard Farrow (four catches and 58 yards), Kobe Harris (six, catches, 58 yards and one TD) and LeJay Hatcher (11 carries, 51 yards and one TD)
Falcons Defense
Defensively, the Falcons are led by Tyrees Smith Jr. linebacker coming into this game with 21 total tackles, with 11 being solo. Other leading tacklers are Igwe Izuchukwu Sr. DT with 18 total tackles, six solo, and Howard Williams Jr. DB with 17 total, and nine solo. Williams has also added an interception. The Falcons have forced five turnovers in their 2 games thus far.
Falcons Special Teams
Ethan Vargo Thomas is averaging 38.3 yards per punt as the sophomore has punted six times in two contests. Kicker Emmanuel Richardson is 0-2 on field goals thus far, having one blocked. In the return game, Leonard Farrow is averaging 26.3 yards per return on kickoff.
THE PIONEERS
GLENVILLE STATE
2024 Season
The Pioneers enter (0-2) after the loss in their home opener to Lock Haven on Sept. 7. Coming off their bye week, the Pioneers still have an opportunity to turn their season around with this being their first conference matchup.
Pioneers Offense
Anthony Garrett threw for 117 yards and a touchdown on six completions in the Pioneers last game but was intercepted three times by the strong Lock Haven defense. The Pioneers were led in rushing yards by both
Markquan Rucker and Zavion Wood with 36 yards apiece. Anothony Garrett (six carries, 21 yards) showed his ability to be mobile at the Quarterback position.
Garrett completed a pass to four different Pioneers, led by
Tariq Miller and
Elijah Palmer, who had two receptions each.
Tariq Miller led the team with 73 receiving yards on two catches.
Tariq Miller also had the lone TD with a 75-yard reception. Palmer (28 yards) and
Naseem Pacheco (14 yards) were involved in the passing game.
Pioneers Defense
The GSU defense was led by Shaun Sterling (11 solo tackles, one TFL),
Sean Scott (7 solo tackles, three TFL) and
Hayden Moore (four solo tackles).
Isaiah Macklin added four tackles and assisted on a TFL while Jaiden McLendon-Parker picked up an interception and returned it for an 11-yard gain. The Pioneers allowed 201 passing yards and 270 rushing yards in their loss to Lock Haven.
Pioneers Special Teams
Zander Watson had five punts last week, averaging 50 yards per punt with his longest being 69-yards. Glenville State did fumble a kickoff return and totaled 139 yards on five kickoff attempts.
