Shorthanded No. 2 Pioneers Fall to No. 16 Ashland

ASHLAND, Ohio – The nationally ranked Glenville State Wrestling team fell to No. 16 Ashland tonight, 22-20, in a neck and neck dual that came down to the final weight class.

The shorthanded No. 2 Pioneers fell behind 12-4, but a tech fall from Guy DeLeonardis and a win from Wiley Houser, GSU tied it back up at 12 all. Glenville State fell behind once again until Kyle Homet and Nick Johnson were able to put GSU up 20-16 going into the heavyweight match. A pin by Ashland's Wyatt Bailey gave Ashland six points and the win, 22-20.

"We lost with four starters out but wrestled with amazing effort and had a chance to win it at heavyweight," said Head Coach Dylan Cottrell.

The Pioneers were without the nation's No. 1 wrestlers in the 133-pound class (Gavin Quiocho) and the 174-pound class (Hayden Pummel) as well as the No. 5 wrestler in the 149-pound class in Gabe Onorato and the #13 ranked wrestler at heavyweight in Colby Whitehill.
