Preview: Men's Basketball Welcomes West Virginia State, Concord to Conclude Three-Game Homestand

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Glenville State Men's Basketball, in a week full of home games, hosts West Virginia State on Wednesday (Jan. 22) and Concord on Saturday (Jan. 25) to conclude their three-game homestand.

THE OPPONENTS
WEST VIRGINIA STATE
2024-25 Season
The Yellow Jackets are currently ranked 8th in the Mountain East Conference standings with a record of (6-8, 3-5 MEC). Earlier in the season when the Pioneers traveled to Institute, the Yellow Jackets won the back-and-forth battle, 82-79.

Head Coach
Bryan Poore is in his 25th season as the Head Coach of the West Virginia State Men's Basketball program. Coach Poore is the winningest coach in school history with a record of 376-292 before the 2024-25 season.

Quick Look at The Yellow Jackets
This season, the Yellow Jackets are led in scoring by Jaedaun Slack, who is averaging 16.5 points per game. Rebounding looks to be a team effort as four Yellow Jackets are averaging five rebounds a game or more with Miguel Martinez and Nate Mims leading the way with six rebounds per game. Three different Yellow Jackets are averaging two assists apiece. On the defensive side of the ball, Arthur Cox is averaging one assist a game and three different players are averaging one block per game.

CONCORD
2024-25 Season
The Mountain Lions come in (7-6, 6-3 MEC), sitting at No. 4 in the MEC standings. This is the first matchup between Concord and Glenville State as the teams split their season series. Concord's offense is ranked 2nd in the MEC as they are averaging 87.5 points per game as a team.

Head Coach
Todd May is in his ninth season as the Head Coach of the Concord Men's Basketball program. In his eight seasons as HC of the Mountain Lions, May has a record of 120-104. Coach May led Mountain Lions to back-to-back appearances in the Mountain East Conference Tournament Semifinals in 2018 and 2019 with another appearance there in 2024 as well as a trip to the NCAA Tournament.

Quick Look at The Mountain Lions
The Mountain Lions are led by guard Kollin Tolbert's 17.9 points per game, five rebounds, two assists and one steal per game. Corey Boston is also putting work on both ends of the floor for the Mountain Lions, averaging 16 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals a night, which leads the MEC. Rene Diop and Kraig Gilbert are both averaging two blocks per game and lead the MEC in blocks per game with Diop taking the number one spot and King being in second place. Gilbert also leads the Mountain Lions on the boards, averaging six rebounds per game.

THE PIONEERS
GLENVILLE STATE
2024-25 Season
The Pioneers are currently ranked 6th in the Mountain East Conference with a record of (9-7, 4-5 MEC). After last week's play, the Pioneers moved up and now lead the MEC on defense by holding their opponents to an average of 75.8 points per game.

Quick Look at The Pioneers
Devin Collins is averaging a team leading 16 points with four rebounds and one assist per game. The freshmen have been standouts for the Pioneers this season with Ammar Maxwell averaging 11 points, five rebounds and two assists for the Pioneers this season as a starter. Off the bench, freshman Don Colon-Lewis is averaging 11 points, four rebounds, one assist and one steal per game. Freshman Elijah Redfern, who has seen a couple starts lately, is averaging seven points and two assists. Prince Mosengo's domination on the boards this season has led to him being second in the MEC for rebounds per game with nine boards a night. Mosengo is also averaging 11 points per game for the Pioneers. Senior guard Samier Kinsler is averaging 13 points and one steal per game as well.
