BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – The Glenville State Football team finished out the 2025 campaign with a bang Saturday (Nov. 15) afternoon in Buckhannon, blowing out West Virginia Wesleyan, 56-16, to finish the season (6-5, 5-3 MEC) and tied for 3
rd in the conference.
1st Quarter
The Pioneer offense moved with ease in the opening quarter, starting the game off with a 77-yard drive that saw
Anthony Garrett complete two passes for 53 yards and
Jeremiah King carry the ball four times, including his seven-yard TD run. WVWC recorded a first down in their first drive, but were forced to punt it to the Pioneers shortly after. Garrett connected with
Tariq Miller for a 59-yard touchdown on the ensuing drive, making it 14-0.
Following a failed fourth down attempt from their own 43-yardline, the Bobcats put the ball back into the Pioneers' hands with great field position. In seven plays,
Mike Kellar's squad killed some clock and capitalized on the field position with a 12-yard TD from Garrett to
Sean Elmore as the score stood at 21-0 at the end of the opening quarter.
2nd Quarter
A drive that started in the late portion of the first quarter, the Bobcats were able to finish it off in the opening 15 seconds of the second stanza when Logan Landers found Clarence Currin from eight yards out to trim the deficit to 14. Glenville State answered right back when
Amari Colon-Brown caught the screen pass and did a bunch of weaving through Bobcat defenders to take it 31 yards to the endzone as GSU led 28-7.
West Virginia Wesleyan did their own answering on the following drive, converting on a 3
rd & 20 before scoring from a yard out. The extra point would be missed, making it 28-13. A field goal late in the half trimmed the Pioneer lead down to 28-16 going into the locker room.
3rd Quarter
WVWC seemed to have some momentum at the start of the second half, but a big stop by the Pioneer defense on fourth down gave GSU great field position once again. To no surprise, the Glenville State offense took advantage with an 11-yard touchdown pass from Garrett to
Naseem Pacheco, extending the lead out to 35-16. After a quick possession, the Bobcats had to punt it back to the Pioneer offense. Garrett found
Arnav Thornhill for 28 yards before
Jeremiah King had an 11-yard rush and a seven-yard touchdown run to make it 42-16.
4th Quarter
Another TD connection between Garrett and Colon-Brown pushed the Pioneers near 50 points at the start of the fourth quarter. The defense forced a fumble, which allowed
Zachary Colimon to eventually put the Pioneers over the half-century mark, 56-16. The clock would eventually run out with Glenville State capturing their sixth and final win of the 2025 season.
