Men's Basketball Secures First Win of Season Over Livingstone

INSTITUTE, W.Va. – The Glenville State Men's Basketball team bounced back in their second game of the season on Saturday (Nov. 15) evening, defeating Livingstone 74-59 at the Walker Convocation Center in Institute.

1st Half 
The Pioneers set the tone early, jumping out to a double-digit lead behind sharp perimeter shooting and crisp ball movement. Ammar Maxwell led the charge, knocking down three triples and scoring 11 first-half points while Elijah Redfern and Prince Mosengo combined for 20 before the break. Glenville entered halftime with a 43-33 advantage after shooting 39% from the field and connecting on six threes. 

2nd Half 
With Maxwell limited by foul trouble, Rye Gadd provided a crucial spark off the bench in the second half. The junior guard attacked the basket, drew contact and converted eight of nine free throws on his way to 14 points and six rebounds. Mosengo continued to control the paint with 17 points and eight boards while Redfern turned in another strong all-around performance, finishing with 17 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals as the Pioneers closed out the 15-point win.

Final Stats
Livingstone
James Nipper led all scorers with 19 points while grabbing 10 rebounds for the Blue Bears. Jemez Herd was also in double figures with 10 points. As a team, they had 13 turnovers and just one assist. 

Glenville State 
Glenville shot 39% from the field, 25% from three and a stellar 91% from the free-throw line (20-for-22). The Pioneers controlled the glass 39-34 and converted 17 second-chance points off 10 offensive rebounds.

Elijah Redfern: 17 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals 
Prince Mosengo: 17 points, 8 rebounds, 2 blocks 
Rye Gadd: 14 points, 6 rebounds, 8-for-9 FT 
Ammar Maxwell: 15 points, 3-for-3 from three

The Pioneers will welcome Bluefield State on Friday (Nov. 21) for Kids Day inside the Waco Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 12 p.m.
