Pioneers Sweep Tri-Meet, Record First Nationally Ranked Win in Program History

GLENVILLE, W.Va. - The Glenville State Acrobatics & Tumbling team got two victories in tonight's tri-meet, upsetting #9 Frostburg State and beating Wheeling in their first home meet of the year. The Pioneers victory against #9 Frostburg State marks the program's first win over a nationally ranked team in program history.

The first event of the evening was the Compulsory Event, which is made of four heats: Acro, Pyramid, Toss, and Tumbling. The Cardinals had the lowest score of the event with 21.95. Next were the Pioneers with a score of 31.65. The Bobcats had the highest score of the event with a score of 33.65, giving them a two-point lead going into the acro event.

In the Acro Event, the Cardinals scored 15.65. Ahead of them was the Bobcats with a score of 23.90, leaving the Pioneers with an event-high 27.70 to give them a lead. 

The last event before halftime was the Pyramid Event. This event has proven to be a strong suit for the Pioneers as they scored 27.55 and even scored 9.65 in the Inversion Pyramid. Wheeling scored 22.55 while Frostburg State earned a score of 26.90.

The Toss Event kicked off the second half of the meet. The Cardinals scored 22.70 while the Bobcats produced a score of 25.85. The Pioneers once again had the highest score of the event with 26.80.

Next up was the Tumbling Event. The Bobcats took the highest score of this event with 46.550. The Pioneers finished less than a point behind the Bobcats with 45.675. Wheeling closed out with 38.475.

The last event of the evening was Team Event. Wheeling didn't have a team event, but this event would be the deciding factor between the Pioneers and the Bobcats. The Bobcats went first and scored 80.69. The Pioneers needed a score of 78 to seal their victory. An 80.94 gave them the tri-meet sweep and their first win over a nationally ranked opponent in program history.
