WRESTLING CROWNED NCAA SUPER REGION 3 CHAMPIONS!

TIFFIN, Ohio – The nationally ranked Glenville State Wrestling team captured their first-ever regional championship last night! The Pioneers won the NCAA DII Super Region 3 Championship with two individuals winning a regional championship and five others qualifying for nationals!

SUPER REGION 3 INDIVIDUAL CHAMPIONS
Hayden Pummel won a regional championship at 174 pounds as the No. 1 ranked wrestler in his weight class secured four victories on the day to punch his ticket to Indianapolis. The Northern Illinois transfer won his first two matches by tech fall before winning by decision to earn his spot into the finals. A pin fall 3:19 into the match awarded Pummel his Super Region 3 Championship.

Nick Johnson was the Pioneers second regional champion as the grappler took home a title at 197 pounds. The Parkersburg, W.Va. native earned a bye in the opening round before rolling to consecutive victories to qualify for the championship match. The junior pinned Ashland's Kaine Morris 1:36 into their match to win his Super Region 3 Championship.

NCAA NATIONAL QUALIFIERS
Colton Drousias placed 3rd at 125 pounds to earn his spot at Nationals. Drousias won his first two matches of the day before falling in the semifinals, however the West Virginia transfer secured two more victories in the consolation bracket to grab third place.

Gabe Onorato finished 2nd in the 149-pound class, reaching the championship round before eventually falling. The Drexel transfer won his first three matches by two decisions and a tech fall.

Gaetano DeLeonardis, an All-American under HC Dylan Cottrell, finished 2nd at 157 pounds to punch his ticket to Indianapolis. The former Millersville Marauder won his first three matches via tech fall before being defeated by Tiffin's Casey Barnett in the championship round.

Kyle Homet placed 3rd in the 184-pound class to secure his spot at Nationals. The Life University transfer earned a bye in the first round and won by tech fall in his second match, however he would be defeated and moved to the consolation bracket after losing to Grand Valley State's Brayden Mirjavadi in the semifinals. Homet bounced back mightily, winning both of his consolation matches via decision to advance to Indianapolis.

Isaiha Casto was the final national qualifier for the Pioneers as the graduate student finished 2nd at 285 pounds. The heavyweight bruiser had a bye in his first match before earning a pin fall 17 seconds into his next match. In the semifinals, he won by decision but would be defeated by Carter Blough of Grand Valley State in the finals.

OTHER PIONEER PLACEMENTS
Hunter Ross earned the Pioneers 7.0 team points with a 6th place finish at 133 pounds. Caleb Brooks finished 5th at 141 pounds, adding 11.0 team points to the board for the Pioneers. Wiley Houser was knocked out at 165 pounds in the third round of the consolation bracket.

The seven Pioneers that qualified for Nationals will head to Indianapolis March 14-15 for the NCAA DII Wrestling Championships.
