Pioneers Fall in MEC Championship to Fairmont State

FAIRMONT, W.Va. - The Glenville State Acrobatics & Tumbling team fell in the Mountain East Conference Championship to Fairmont State last night, 266.505-253.140 as the Falcons won their first league title since 2022.

The Pioneers scored 36.125 to open the Compulsory Event while FSU would be able to take the lead early with a 37.200 score in the event.

In the Acro Event, the Pioneers managed to get a score of 27.700 to increase their overall meet score to 63.825. The Falcons increased their advantage over the Pioneers a little after receiving a score of 28.475 to increase their overall score to 65.675.

The last event before halftime was the Pyramid Event. The Pioneers, who have thrived it in this event all year, scored an event total of 28.975 out of their 30 possible points. Fairmont State would barely outscore the Pioneers in this event, earning a score of 29.275. This would bring the Pioneers total event score to 92.800 and the Falcons total event score to 94.950 at the midway point. 

The Toss Event kicked off the second half of the meet. The Pioneers were trying to trim at the deficit out of the locker room, earning a score of 27.175 but the Falcons were handed a score of 28.250. This would bring the Pioneers total event score to 119.975 and the Falcons to 123.200.

Next up was the Tumbling Event. In this event, GSU put up one of their better performances with a score of 48.325 to give them a total meet score of 168.300. The Falcons, scoring 8.000 or better in all six heats, competed to a score of 53.525 to increase their lead over the Pioneers and heighten their total meet score to 176.725.

A near five-point advantage in the Team Event sealed the deal for the Falcons as they secured the MEC Championship, 266-505.253.140.

The Pioneers now await the possibility of traveling to Sioux Falls, South Dakota for the NCATA Event Finals in two weeks.
