GLENVILLE, W.Va. - Glenville State Football will open the 2025 season on Saturday (Aug. 30) against Emory & Henry in the Pioneers first
Home Away From Home game at Herbert Hoover Stadium in Elkview. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. on the campus of Herbert Hoover High School and will be streaming on the Mountain East Conference Digital Network. The game is presented by Waco Oil & Gas, Flying W Plastics and Foodland.

2024 Season
The Wasps had their best season in 27 years last year, going (9-2) overall and (6-2) in the South Atlantic Conference (SAC), which was good enough for 2nd place in the Mountain Division. Head Coach Quentin Hunter had 15 players earn All-SAC honors, including five First Teamers. In addition, Shawn Collins and Cam Abshire were All-Region and All-American performers in '24.

Head Coach
Quentin Hunter is in his second season as the Head Football Coach at Emory & Henry after serving a portion of 2024 as the Interim HC. Under Hunter, E&H won nine games with two nationally ranked wins and an undefeated (6-0) record at home. The Wasps also received votes in the AFCA DII Top 25 poll and were ranked in the NCAA DII Regional Rankings for the first time. He previously served as the program's Offensive Coordinator.

Wasps Offense
Charles Mutter III is back under center for the Wasps in 2025 after playing in 10 games last season with 1,446 yards and 18 touchdowns. Backup Cole Lambert also played in eight games and threw for 1,190 yards with nine touchdowns. Against Glenville State to open 2024, Mutter went 7-for-17 with 141 yards and two touchdowns. Former Saint Francis (Pa.) transfer Jordan Jackson returns after a 1,036-yard season (4
th SAC) on the ground for the Wasps last year as the All-SAC First Teamer ran the ball 222 times and logged six touchdowns. At receiver, All-Mountain Division selection Cam Peoples will look to take over WR1 duties as the 5-7 senior had 756 receiving yards (5
th SAC) and a team-leading 52 receptions (3
rd SAC) in 2024.

Senior Nate Tinnell leads the tight end room once again, coming off 10 receptions for 118 yards and three touchdowns a year ago. DeShaun Sharp, who was an All-SAC First Team selection in 2024, heads the veteran offensive line group for Emory & Henry, which is set to feature three 5
th year seniors, a junior and a sophomore. In total, the offensive line has a combined 108 games played and 67 games started.

Wasps Defense
On defense, the Wasps are highlighted by 2024 All-American selection Shawn Collins, All-SAC First Team defensive back Jarrell Harrison and All-SAC Mountain Division defensive lineman Ean Rhea. Collins, who is a D2Football.com Preseason First Team All-American, was fifth in the country in interceptions with six last year. Harrison had 43 tackles, 15 passes defended and five interceptions from his defensive back position while Rhea, who is set to be the leader on the defensive line once again, posted 10 tackles for loss last year.

In total, four of the five projected starters in the secondary are seniors, bringing back a lot of the same intensity they had a year ago. "They're a good defense all around but that secondary causes a lot of problems and creates a lot of turnovers," said Head Coach
Mike Kellar. At linebacker, the Wasps will have A.J. Burgess and Trey McBride, who combined for 19 total tackles in 2024. On the defensive line, Will Hamlin is paired with Rhea as the junior finished with 30 tackles and four tackles for loss in '24.

Wasps Special Teams
Cam Peoples was not only electric at receiver for the Wasps as he was an All-Conference returner and looks to do the same in 2025 as the leading return specialist. Kicker Trace Butcher is a two-time All-Conference performer and is back once again for the Wasps after breaking the all-time made field goals record in Emory & Henry history (37) last season. Sophomore Brennan Hanley has been given the keys to the punting duties as well.

GLENVILLE STATE
2024 Season
Glenville State is coming off of an historic season of their own, finishing (7-4) overall and (7-2) in the MEC last season, which was good enough for a second-place finish in the league. The Pioneers ended the year on a five-game winning streak and saw 11 players earn All-MEC honors, including three First Teamers.
Jamair Diaz was the league's Defensive Player of the Year while defensive back Jaiden McLendon-Parker won the MEC Defensive Freshman of the Year award.

Head Coach
Mike Kellar is entering his seventh season at the helm of the Pioneers. Kellar produced his fourth winning season and third seven-win year in 2024. He coached two Conference Players of the Year and an All-American in
Jamair Diaz as well as 11 All-Conference performers. Kellar is nearing 100 career victories as the 2025 season kicks off.

Pioneers Offense
Senior
Anthony Garrett has made 27 career starts and will be QB1 heading into the year for the third-straight season. In 2022, he began the year as a backup but would start the final six games of the year. Garrett is coming off a 2024 campaign that saw him throw for 1,860 yards and 21 touchdowns on 150 completions. "Towards the end of last year Anthony became more of a runner for us and that kept some drives alive," said Kellar. He also ran for 137 yards and a touchdown. "He had a really good off-season, he's in good shape right now and he can really throw the football."

His right-hand man in the backfield will be
Zavione Wood, as the former Virginia Tech / Western Kentucky transfer is coming off his best season as a Pioneer with 691 yards and four touchdowns on the ground.
Jeremiah King, who was third on the team in rushing yards with 184 on 50 attempts, will continue the Kellar-style offense of two running backs.

At receiver, Garrett returns all four of his top weapons from a year ago in All MEC Second Teamer
Tariq Miller (42 receptions, 735 yards, eight TDs),
Amari Colon-Brown (13 receptions, 218 yards, three TDs),
Naseem Pacheco (24 receptions, 200 yards, four TDs) and
Kordell Lewis (12 receptions, 147 yards, one TD). Miller was fourth in the MEC in receiving yards as well. West Virginia transfer
Andrew Phares and junior
Tariq Meredith will also be options for Garrett.

The tight end position will be comprised of veterans in former Northern Illinois transfer
Sean Elmore (R-Sr.) and Lake Erie College transfer
Koraun Perdue (R-Jr.). Perdue is back from an injury he suffered in '24 but caught 21 passes for 328 yards and two touchdowns at Lake Erie in 2023. Former VMI transfer
Ben George (Gr.) adds another big target and blocker for the Pioneers passing and running game.

Jaheziah Wade will start at left guard and is the veteran leader for the Pioneers up front after an All-MEC Honorable Mention nod in 2024.

Alex Willis made starts last year and will take on that role once again in '25 while University HS product

The defensive line has plenty of new faces but experience is not lacking for the Pioneers.
Tank Gant provides a proven pass rusher off the edge as the 6-foot-2, 238-pound junior has 41 tackles and seven tackles for loss in his first two seasons in the blue and white. JUCO All-American
Alexander Hedhili will man the other edge following an impressive 2024 season at Hudson Valley CC where he finished with 38 total tackles, eight sacks and a forced fumble. Sophomore
Eugene Allen takes over the starting role at tackle with Georgia Military College transfer
Jamar Grimball set to make noise at nose tackle. Monroe JC transfers Jaylon Long and
Aaron Harris are in the rotation along with redshirt freshman

Pioneers Special Teams
Tariq Miller returned punts and kicks in 2024 and will be doing the same in '25 for Special Teams Coordinator

Brody Layman continues his kicking duties after going 7-for-9 on field goals last season, including a game winner at Fairmont State and a 45-yarder versus West Virginia State. Redshirt junior
Zander Watson will be the punter for the Pioneers for a third-straight season as the in-state product had 13 punts inside the 20 and five of 50 or more yards last season.
