THE OPPONENT
MILLERSVILLE
2025 Season
The Marauders enter (0-1) after falling in their season opener to Frostburg State, 42-34, on Sept. 4. Millersville was selected to finish eighth (of eight) in the PSAC East Preseason Poll after finishing the 2024 season (1-10) overall and (0-7) in PSAC play. Last year, MU had five losses come by two scores or fewer and the team held the lead or was tied at halftime in seven of 11 games.

  • 363.0 Yards Per Game (8th PSAC)
  • 261.0 Passing YPG (7th  PSAC)
  • 102.0 Rushing YPG (12th PSAC)

Head Coach
J.C. Morgan is in his eighth season as the Head Coach of the Millersville Football program. In that time, he has produced 21 All-PSAC East performers and an All-American, the first since 1998. Morgan came to MU after a 13-year stint at Shippensburg where he served his final three as the offensive coordinator.

Marauders Offense
After becoming the starter midway through the '24 season, Ryan Zeltt is back behind center for the Marauders. He threw for 261 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in week one against Frostburg State. Last season, he saw action in nine games and threw for 1,490 yards with 12 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Zeltt was accompanied by four different running backs in the season opener with all of them carrying the ball at least seven times, led by JQ Brown's 11 carries for 40 yards.

Zeltt had a strong connection with Colin Hastings (five receptions, 88 yards) and Kam Taylor (five catches, 83 yards and one TD) as the two seem to be his favorite targets early on. Up front, the offensive line features experience as three starters are seniors and youthfulness in Tre Spahr (sophomore) and J.J. Torres (freshman).

Marauders Defense
Bryce Beutler was the team's leading tackler (72) last season and he started right where he left off against FSU, tying his career-high of 12 tackles. In addition, he notched two TFLs and a sack. Millersville had just eight sacks in '24 but Beutler and Max Hostetter's one sack started their season off much differently.

The secondary is led by senior Nick Romano, as the 6-1, 185-pound senior was the team's second-leading tackler last season with 61 stops as well as two TFLs and three interceptions. He is accompanied by a veteran group who have seen the field during their time as a Marauder but are entering their first season as full-time starters in the backend of the defense.

Marauders Special Teams
Kicker Trent McDowell made two field goals last week and was 8-for-9 on FG attempts in 2024, ranking second in the PSAC in FG% and field goals made.

Pioneers Offense
Anthony Garrett is coming off one of his best performances in a Pioneer uniform, passing for 296 yards and two scores on 23-of-35 passing. He threw for 210 yards and two touchdowns in the season opener against Emory & Henry as well. Jeremiah King stepped in as the starter at LHU and ran for 78 yards on 21 carries while also catching a pass. On the year, he has 41 carries for 122 yards and a TD.

After a stellar performance at Lock Haven (eight catches, 136 yards and one TD), Naseem Pacheco leads the GSU receivers room with nine grabs for 153 yards on the year. Tariq Miller has also brought in nine passes this season, totaling 106 yards and a score as also. Tariq Meredith has stepped into his new role nicely, ranking third on the team in receptions (six) and yards (64) through two games. Kordell Lewis has a receiving touchdown and five catches for 45 yards, recording his lone TD of the year last week.

Pioneers Defense
Safety Brandon Penn has been everywhere for the Pioneer defense thus far, leading the team with 19 total tackles, including 14 solo. It is a four-way tie for second on the team in tackles with 11 as Anthony Bachinski, Braden Boggs, Jaiden McLendon Parker and Sean Scott all have double-digit stops. Tank Gant and Donovan Williams have both chimed in with 1.5 TFL while Williams and Jamar Grimball are the only Pioneers with a sack.

In the secondary, true freshman Kaevon Blanding leads the team with three pass breakups. McLendon-Parker and Scott both have a PBU in the backend while McLendon-Parker also has the Pioneers only interception on the young season.
