MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Glenville State Football team had 604 yards of total offense and a 100-yard pick six in their 44-28 win at Millersville on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 13). The Pioneers produced over 325 yards of passing and nearly 300 yards on the ground to gain their first victory of the 2025 season.
1st Quarter
A pair of empty opening drives by both the Pioneers and Marauders did not signify the type of offensive day it would be for the two teams. The Pioneers marched down the field on their second drive of the contest and scored from a yard out on a
Jeremiah King rush up the middle, making it 7-0. Millersville answered back just a minute later with a score of their own to notch things up at seven all.
2nd Quarter
A 28-point second quarter started with a Marauders 48-yard touchdown run from one of their four running backs, Isaiah Emmanuel. A muffed kickoff return put the Pioneers in a bad position to start their first drive of the new quarter, eventually leading to a forced fumble from the MU defense that gave Millersville the ball in Pioneer territory. Quarterback Ryan Zeltt found Isaac Sines from 40 yards out to give the Marauders a 21-7 lead with just under 11 minutes left in the second frame.
Down by two scores, the GSU offense didn't let the deficit bother them. Quarterback
Anthony Garrett hurdled a defender to break out a 42-yard carry and came back two plays later with a 15-yard run to put the Pioneers inside the 10.
Graylan Holland broke five tackles en route to his seven-yard touchdown carry to put GSU within a score. A promising drive by MU was doomed when
Brandon Penn blocked the Marauders 35-yard field goal attempt to keep the game within one score.
Multiple penalties on the Pioneer offense seemed to be a drive killer but they didn't flinch. The GSU offense held a 2
nd & 35 and a 3
rd & 22 but were able to convert on a big connection between Garrett and
Tariq Meredith for 37 yards and a five-yard TD run from
Jeremiah King knotted things up at 21 heading into the locker room.
3rd Quarter
An interception right out of the half by the Millersville defense set them up in great field position, however an impressive stand on fourth and short by the Pioneer defense put the ball back in
Anthony Garrett's hands. He found King leaking out of the backfield for 58 yards, leading to an eventual Garrett TD run from nine yards out to give GSU their first lead since the early stages of the opening quarter.
The Marauders had another promising drive get stuffed at the one-yard line when MU went for it on fourth down but
Jamar Grimball stood strong to get the Pioneer defense off the field. A pass that bounced off the chest of a Pioneer fell right into the Marauders hands but another missed field goal by the MU kicker kept the game at 28-21. That score didn't hold long as Garrett found
Arnav Thornhill for a 77-yard score to make it a two-touchdown game. However, that score also didn't hold long with the Marauders marching down the field and finding the endzone from 15 yards out to trim the deficit to seven.
4th Quarter
A drive that started before the final quarter and lasted over five minutes was finished off with a 24-yard field goal by
Brody Layman to put the GSU lead back up to two scores at 38-28. After a good return that gave MU the ball near the 50,
Henry Lyes introduced himself to Ryan Zeltt with an interception. The punters were on the field more in the following three possessions than they had been all game as both defenses held firm on third downs.
Millersville had a long drive completely turned sideways when
Brandon Penn ended his impressive day by jumping in front of Zeltt's pass at the goal line and taking it back 100 yards for a pick six and putting the game out of reach at 44-28. MU once again tried to score at the goal line on their next drive but the GSU defense stayed true with another interception, this time by true freshman
Jaziah Berberena to put the final touches on Glenville State's 44-28 win.
