GLENVILLE, W.Va. - Glenville State Football is set to face the two-time defending Mountain East Conference champion on Saturday (Sept. 27) when the Pioneers host the University of Charleston in their second Home Away From Home game at County Stadium in Spencer. The contest will be on the campus of Roane County High School and will also be streaming on the Mountain East Conference Digital Network. The 1 p.m. kickoff is presented by our Hometown Huddle sponsors: GoMart, Minnie Hamilton Health System, Dairy Queen and Poca Valley Bank.

2025 Season
The Golden Eagles are (2-2, 1-0 MEC) after a 17-point comeback victory over Concord last week, defeating the Mountain Lions 38-24. UC started out the year as the nation's #12 team on a convincing 39-10 win over Livingstone but back-to-back losses to nationally ranked opponents, No. 14 California (Pa.) and No. 17 West Alabama, pushed the Golden Eagles out of the Top 25.

Head Coach
Mike Tesch is in his first season as the Head Coach of the University of Charleston Football program. He previously served as the team's offensive coordinator before taking over and is in his fifth overall season with the program. Tesch also spent time at Clarion and Illinois College (D-III).
Golden Eagles Offense
Gilmer County native Ean Hamric quarterbacks the Golden Eagle offense, having thrown for 798 yards, nine touchdowns and just three interceptions while running for 212 yards and one score. He had a career day to open the 2025 campaign against Livingstone, completing 20-of-27 passes for 285 yards and five touchdowns. Zachariah Williams (65 carries, 251 yards, one TD), Jaylen Butera (42 carries, 244 yards, one TD) and Justin McDuffe (27 carries, 128 yards, two TDs) have shared the backfield with Hamric.
At receiver, 2024 All-MEC First Team selection Yves Bosmans has once again been electric in head coach Mike Tesch's offense, catching 19 passes for 400 yards and five touchdowns this season. Marquan Herron is another vital threat for Hamric through the air as the Youngstown, Ohio native has over 1,400 yards in his career and has totaled 164 yards on 11 catches and three touchdowns in 2025.
Golden Eagles Defense
Former All-MEC selection Aden Miller continues to lead the UC defense as the 5-11, 215-pound senior linebacker has 25 tackles, a sack and a pass breakup. Seven other Golden Eagle defenders have already amounted double-digit tackles as well, including defensive lineman Nesta Owens, who has 10 stops, two tackles for loss, one sack, a QB hurry and a fumble recovery.
Ty Wickliffe is the top defensive back thus far, recording 10 tackles, an interception and two pass breakups. His counterpart, Montel Campbell, has also pulled in an interception and batted down a pass in 2025. Musa Tama and Charvez Carter have been the more premiere rushers for the Golden Eagles as Tama leads the team with three TFLs while Carter is atop the team in sacks with two.
Golden Eagles Special Teams
Gryffin Mitstifer does the kicking duties for Charleston, going two-for-four on field goals with a long of 47. Steven Earnest has punted 20 times for an average of 41.1 yards per punt and four 50+ yard punts. Caleb Barringer has a kickoff return touchdown, one that he took 98 yards.

2025 Season
The Pioneers are (1-2) and coming off of a bye week after wrapping up non-conference play against Millersville with a 44-28 victory on September 13. Glenville State started the season with back-to-back losses to Emory & Henry and Lock Haven before notching win number one against the Marauders.

Pioneers Offense
The Pioneers high-powered passing offense is led by senior QB
Anthony Garrett, who currently ranks second in the MEC in passing at 278 yards per game and a total of 834 yards through three games. The Detroit, Mich. native has also ran for 133 yards and one score on the ground. He's thrown at least two touchdowns in two of the three games while tossing it for 328 yards against Millersville.
Jeremiah King continues to step up for the injured
Zavione Wood as King has ran the ball 66 times for 225 yards and two scores. The redshirt sophomore is fifth in the league in rushing and had his best game as a Pioneer against Millersville, running for 103 yards and two scores while catching two passes for 61 yards.
Graylan Holland has kept things steady as a solid backup, carrying the ball 21 times for 78 yards and one score.
At receiver,
Naseem Pacheco is fifth in the MEC in receiving yards with 214 as the former Fairmont State and Ventura College wideout had a career day against Lock Haven with eight catches for 136 yards and one touchdown. He then backed that up with five receptions for 61 yards at Millersville.
Arnav Thornhill came up big in place of the injured
Tariq Miller against the Marauders as the 5-9, 185-pound redshirt junior notched five catches for 117 yards and a TD. Tairq Meredith (eight catches, 111 yards),
Kordell Lewis (seven catches, 68 yards, one TD) and
Sean Elmore (four catches, 43 yards) have also been reliable targets for Garrett.
Pioneers Defense
Brandon Penn has once again emerged as a top defender in the Mountain East Conference, ranking third in the league in tackles (34) and leading all MEC defenders in tackles per game at 11.3. The Parkersburg South High School product also has a 100-yard pick six and a blocked kick on the year.
Sean Scott continues to impress as a hybrid, totaling 20 tackles, two TFLs and a pass breakup.
Tank Gant is third on the team in tackles (16) while being tied for ninth in the conference in TFLs with three.
Freshman defensive back
Kaevon Blanding is eighth in the league and first on the team in pass breakups with four. Freshman
Donovan Williams has quietly put together nice numbers early on his career, totaling five tackles, 1.5 TFLs, one sack and a forced fumble. Reigning MEC Defensive Freshman of the Year
Jaiden McLendon Parker is up to 12 tackles, one pass breakup and an interception in just two games played.
Pioneers Special Teams
Brody Layman is two-for-three on field goals this season with a long of 30 while punter
Zander Watson has put five punts inside the 20 and has a long of 48 on the year. West Virginia transfer
Andrew Phares is averaging over 20 yards per return on kickoff as well.
