WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. - The Glenville State Men's Basketball team saw their five-game winning streak come to an end Tuesday (Jan. 14) night, falling 94–83 at nationally ranked West Liberty in a fast-paced Mountain East Conference matchup inside the ASRC. The Pioneers now fall to (9-6, 4-4 MEC) on the season.
1st Half
Glenville came out aggressive against West Liberty's full-court pressure, pushing the tempo and building an early double-digit lead behind balanced scoring and strong transition play. Elijah Redfern opened the night with an early three, while Jalen Knott consistently attacked downhill to keep the pace high. Despite facing pressure on every possession, the Pioneers continued to score efficiently, using interior finishes from Don Colon-Lewis and Prince Mosengo along with timely perimeter shooting. The Pioneers pushed their advantage to as high as 12 midway through the half.
West Liberty's pressure did force mistakes, as Glenville committed 13 first-half turnovers, but the Pioneers maintained control through shot-making and tempo. Late three-pointers by Aiden Davis helped the Hilltoppers trim the margin, but Glenville carried a 42–36 lead into halftime.
2nd Half
West Liberty opened the second half with renewed energy, quickly erasing the deficit and tying the game at 48 as the pace continued to accelerate. The teams traded baskets throughout an extended back-and-forth stretch, with neither side able to create separation. Midway through the half, Glenville answered a 73–70 West Liberty advantage when Corey Boulden knocked down a momentum-shifting three and added a free throw to swing the lead to 74–73. Baskets from Callum Crossman and Knott helped the Pioneers push the advantage to 78–74 during one of Glenville's strongest stretches of the night.
West Liberty responded with a decisive late run, using timely three-point shooting and trips to the free-throw line to regain control in the final minutes. The Hilltoppers closed the game at the stripe, pulling away down the stretch to secure the win. Glenville adjusted well to the pressure after the break, committing just five second-half turnovers as Colon-Lewis helped steady the offense and navigate the full-court press more effectively.
