Preview: Lady Pioneers to Hit the Road to WVSU & Concord this Week

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Glenville State Lady Pioneer Basketball will hit the road for two conference matchups this week against West Virginia State on Wednesday (Jan. 21) and Concord on Saturday (Jan. 24). GSU is looking for the season sweep of the Yellow Jackets and will be in their first meeting with the Mountain Lions.

THE OPPONENTS
WEST VIRGINIA STATE
2025-26 Season
Coming in at (6-7) overall and (3-4) in the MEC, West Virginia State split last week's contests with West Virginia Wesleyan (L, 86-67) and West Liberty (W, 77-74).

Quick Look at The Yellow Jackets
The Yellow Jackets are led by Baylee Goins, who is scoring 15.8 points per game, and Lillian Jackson, who leads the team in rebounding with 10 per game and scores 13 points a night. The other double figure scorers are Imani Hickman, who leads the team in assists with 41, and scores it at 11.2 while Latisha Parris adds 10.7 PPG and Ahjanae Young logs 10 points per game.

CONCORD
2025-26 Season
The Mountain Lions head into the week at (11-5) overall and (7-2) in Mountain East play, CU has won their last three games and has a matchup with Charleston on Wednesday (Jan. 21).

Concord is led by Abbie Smith in points (17.5) and rebounds (10.3) while former Glenville State Lady Pioneer Kenyah Stubbs averages over fifteen points as well at 15.9 and leads the team in free throws. Olivia Ziolkowski is scoring 10.8 points per contest and averaging 5.4 rebounds per game to round out the double-figure scoring.

2025-26 Season
Sitting at (12-3) overall and (7-2) in league play, the Lady Pioneers are in a four-way tie for first place in the Mountain East. Coming off a heartbreaking home loss to Wheeling, head coach Emily Stoler's team looks to respond with a strong week.

Glenville State is led by senior point guard Carine Pinkney, who is scoring almost 14 points per night, shooting 50% from the field, and is second on the team in assists with 28. Nwando Okigbo is nearly averaging a double-double per game with 12.1 points and 8.3 rebounds and has 26 steals on the year. Local product Ashlyn Riley scores 11.3 points per game, while being tied for the team lead in three-point field goals and has 24 assists and 24 steals on the season. Khalia Bryant has been the go-to player underneath, scoring 9.4 points on 55% shooting and grabbing just under seven rebounds on average per night.
