Bobcats Too Much for Pioneers at Home

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Glenville State Football team fell to Frostburg State, 56-7, earlier today (Sept. 10) inside Ike & Sue Morris Stadium. The Bobcats totaled 566 yards of total offense and held the Pioneers to just 212 yards offensively as GSU is now (1-5, 0-3 MEC) on the year.

1st Quarter
The scoring started early for Frostburg State, going up 7-0 on a 14-yard touchdown pass with just over 11 minutes left in the quarter. Caden Harris returned the ensuing kickoff 71 yards, giving the Pioneers prime field position at the FSU 29 yard line. JD Sherrod then connected with Kyree Bunny for a 24-yard touchdown to tie it up at seven apiece.

It didn't take long for the Bobcats to regain the lead, as a kick return near midfield setup a 49-yard touchdown to Tra'Shaun Timmons just plays later. The Pioneers went three and out, with Frostburg State scoring on just two plays once again, this time from 64 yards out.

2nd Quarter
Up 21-7, FSU added onto their advantage to open the second quarter on a 13-yard KJ Smothers rushing TD. Glenville State moved the ball down the field, eventually finding themselves at the five-yard line, but a pair of run stuffers by the Bobcat defense and an offensive facemask call negated a Pioneer touchdown, forcing Glenville to kick a field goal. For the second time in the game, Brody Layman's kick would be hit at the line of scrimmage, keeping the score at 28-7.

Frostburg State used another big play on the following drive, with Smothers scoring from 40 yards out to give the Bobcats a four-touchdown cushion.

3rd Quarter
FSU had a near six-minute drive after forcing a Pioneer punt, growing their advantage even more with a third down touchdown reception. Glenville State would punt again, and Frostburg State continued to chip time off of the clock to end the quarter.

4th Quarter
After shaving off the last five and minutes from the scoreboard to close the third, Frostburg State made it 49-7 in the first six seconds of the final stanza. Following a pair of drives that went scoreless by both teams, the Bobcats recorded their fourth rushing touchdown of the day to make it the eventual final score, 56-7.
