CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Glenville State Football team held a 7-6 second quarter lead but 21 unanswered from Charleston would be the difference as the Golden Eagles downed the Pioneers, 27-7, in the capital city. GSU was held to just 184 yards of total offense and move to (1-3, 0-1 MEC) on the season.
1st Quarter
The Pioneers opened the game with a three and out before Charleston chipped off nearly eight minutes of game time in a run-heavy drive that the Glenville State defense stood strong in the final stages to hold UC to a field goal. GSU spent just three plays on offense on their next drive as the Golden Eagles settled for another field goal on the ensuing drive, making it 6-0.
2nd Quarter
Charleston looked to take advantage of another Pioneer three and out, however the GSU defense had other plans. On 3
rd & 12, a crowded line of scrimmage turned out to be a bluff with the Pioneers dropping eight and UC quarterback Camden Reese throwing into triple coverage and right into the arms of
Omar Diallo. The sophomore cornerback took it back 61 yards before being tripped up at the 10 yard line.
Jamir Fox muscled together three strong runs, finding the endzone on 3
rd & goal to give the Pioneers a 7-6 lead. The Golden Eagles then pieced together a 10-play, 75-yard drive to regain the lead, 13-7. As the half closed, neither team mustered together much offense with UC holding onto a six-point advantage.
3rd Quarter
In what was almost a disastrous start for the Golden Eagles as they almost lost possession on the opening kickoff of the second half, it turned out to be a disastrous for the Pioneers. Reese had a 65-yard run on the first play from scrimmage and three plays later, found running back Zachariah Williams out of the backfield for a seven-yard touchdown.
4th Quarter
UC extended their lead with just over eight minutes left in the game on another rushing touchdown, pushing the lead to the eventual final score, 27-7. The Pioneers showed flashes of better offense in the closing eight minutes, but a pair of fourth down stops by the Golden Eagles halted those attempts.

Camden Reese threw for 142 yards, one touchdown and one interception while also rushing for 111 yards on just 13 carries. Devein Hobbs caught two passes for 49 yards and Caleb Barringer had a team-leading three catches for 37 yards. Four different Golden Eagles had double-digit carries, with Zachariah Williams and Jaylen Butera notching rushing TDs. Brian Jones led the defense with seven tackles and four UC defenders had one TFL.
Glenville State
Maddox Bowers was 12-of-27 for 148 yards and one interception with tight end
Nathan Lhotsky leading the receiving core with four catches for 67 yards.
Jamir Fox's 19 yards and one TD led the run game. Defensively,
Knowel Smith and
Maddox Gillespie notched eight tackles and one TFL each to lead the charge. The Pioneers logged 11 tackles for loss as a unit in the defeat.

The Pioneers now shift their focus to rivalry week, traveling to Fairmont State for the annual Battle For The Bit on Saturday (Oct. 3). Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m.
