Nate Mullen was named the Offensive Coordinator & Quarterbacks Coach with the Glenville State Football program in December of 2025. He is entering his first season with the Pioneers in 2026.
Â
Mullen comes to Glenville State after spending a season at one of Division II’s top football schools, Lenoir-Rhyne, as the Bears Running Backs Coach. In 2025, LRU went (6-5) overall and (5-4) in the South Atlantic Conference, which produced national semifinalist Newberry. In total, the Bears played four NCAA DII playoff teams in ’25.
Â
"I am excited to get Nate on staff at Glenville State. He will bring a proven system and develop players at a high level," said Coach Casteel.
Â
In an offense that ranked top five in the conference in passing, Mullen had four running backs who notched 25 or more carries with senior Alex Boyd leading the way with 91 carries for 417 yards and five touchdowns. Lenoir-Rhyne featured a dual threat quarterback, who led the team in rushes with 92 while adding 325 yards and nine touchdowns.
Â
Prior to Lenoir-Rhyne, Mullen was the Tight Ends Coach / Offensive Quality Control (WRs) at the University of Texas El-Paso (UTEP). During his time with the Miners, he was a pivotal recruiter and also worked both the punt and kick returners, with the punt return team ranking third in the country in yards per return.
Â
Mullen also spent time at UVA Wise as the Running Backs Coach and Co-Special Teams Coordinator. With the Cavaliers, he also oversaw the punt and kickoff return units, as well as taking over as the offensive play caller for the final game of the 2023 season.
Â
His coaching career began with Southern Miss in 2020, as he worked as a Graduate Assistant with the offensive line and in 2021, he worked with the wide receivers for the Golden Eagles. Mullen then went on to finish his time as a GA with Murray State in 2022, coaching special teams and handling offensive quality duties.
Â
He played collegiately at Charlotte (2015-17) before finishing his career at Western Carolina (2018-19), where he started all 23 games on offense and racked up 106 catches for over 1,000 yards and three touchdowns for his tenure.
Â
"I am very excited to join Jake's staff here at Glenville State and be a part of this football program. I'm looking forward to getting started and working with our players," noted the new offensive coordinator and QB coach of the Pioneers.
Mullen is the son of longtime coach Jeff Mullen, who spent time at the University of Ohio, Wake Forest, West Virginia and Charlotte in a variety of positions, most notably as the OC at WVU (2008-10) and Charlotte (2011-17). Jeff coached Pat White in 2008 and was the primary recruiter for Geno Smith, as he would coach the future NFL draft pick for the Mountaineers.
