Stephen Dye

Stephen Dye enters his second year back with the Glenville State Men's Basketball program as an Assistant Coach in 2025-26. Dye is also in his second year as the Associate Athletic Director.

In Dye's first year back on the sidelines in Glenville, the Pioneers improved to a (17-13) overall record and (10-10) MEC finish. GSU finished sixth in the league and advanced to the MEC Tournament Semifinals after an opening round win over Charleston. Devin Collins earned All-MEC First Team and star freshman Ammar Maxwell landed on the All-MEC Second Team. The Pioneers ranked near the top of the league in scoring defense (4th), scoring margin (4th), opponent FG percentage (2nd), turnover margin (4th), assist/turnover ratio (4th) and steals (4th).

He returns to coaching world after a year as the Director of Fundraising for Athletics with the GSU Foundation. Dye started his coaching career in 2006 with Davis & Elkins where he served as an assistant coach. He is no stranger to the Glenville community as he spent 2007-09 as an assistant with the Pioneers before becoming the Head Coach prior to the 2009-10 season. He spent eight seasons as the man in charge, leading the Pioneers to back-to-back NCAA Tournaments and to their first conference championship in over 40 years in 2015.

Dye then took over his alma mater, Alderson Broaddus, in 2019 and spent four years at the helm. During his time, he won 40 games and took the Battlers to the MEC Tournament Semifinals in 2022. ABU eventually shut down right before the 2023-24 academic year.

In his time as either an assistant or head coach, Dye has recruited and coached 18 All-Conference players while having 25 players go overseas and play professionally.

Dye is a Whitesville, W.Va. native, graduating from Marsh Fork High School in 2001. He was a First Team All-State Selection, McDonald's All-American and a state runner-up while at Marsh Fork.

He continued his playing career collegiately at Alderson Broaddus, carving out a very successful career. Individually, Dye was the WVIAC Freshman of the Year, All-WVIAC First Team, All-Region Second Team, Neil Baisi Award winner and broke the all-time NCAA DII Three-Point Record with 444. He was on historic AB teams, winning back-to-back-to-back WVIAC Conference Tournament Championships and appearing in four NCAA Tournaments. Dye and the Battlers made it as far as the Sweet Sixteen.

Dye graduated from Alderson Broaddus with a Bachelor's in Business Marketing before heading onto West Virginia University to get his master's in Sports Management.Â
