Glenville State University Athletics

Dan Meyers enters his fifth season as the Head Coach of the Glenville State Cross Country and Track & Field programs in 2025-26. Meyers also serves as the Special Advisor to the Athletic Director.

The 2024-25 Track & Field seasons were a success for Coach Meyers, having Natalie Barr earn USTFCCCA All-Region for the indoor season and Janae Scott be on the USTFCCCA All-Region team for the outdoor season. Nine Pioneers earned All-Conference at the MEC Indoor Championships, headlined by Janae Scott's shot put championship. During the outdoor season, five Pioneers earned podium finishes with Scott once again winning the shot put championship.

During the 2024 XC season, both men's and women's teams were USTFCCCA All-Academic while Jenna Barnett, Natalie Barr and Nick Pitchford earning individual success as USTFCCCA All-Academic. Barr become the first Pioneer XC runner since 1988 to be First Team All-Conference and Patrick Reilly took home MEC Freshman of the Year and All-MEC Second Team. As a team, the women finished 5th (their highest since 1993) while the men took 6th. 

GSU's Track & Field teams also reached new heights in the spring of 2024. Janae Scott won the MEC Shot Put Championship during the indoor and outdoor season while Natalie Barr was a podium finisher during both seasons. Scott and Barr were both All-Region during the indoor season and Barr was All-Region during the outdoor season as well. Four other Pioneers were podium finishers at the MEC Outdoor Championship.

The 2023 Cross Country season was an historic one under Meyers. Freshman Natalie Barr broke several records, becoming the first female Cross Country runner to be all-conference since 1991 when she was named to the All-MEC Second Team. She then became the first-ever Pioneer to earn All-Region, placing 25th at the Atlantic Regional Championship.

During the spring of 2023, GSU's Track and Field Teams saw success throughout the campaign. Koschinya Jefferson became Coach Meyer’s first Mountain East Conference Track Athlete of the Year. Throughout the year, Jefferson broke multiple school records and was dominant in the Heptathlon. In total, one Pioneer would be a USTFCCA All-Region selection and four were selected to All-MEC teams. 

The 2022 Track and Field season saw seven athletes earn all-conference honors for the Pioneers. Both men’s and women’s teams at the 2022 Mountain East Conference Track & Field meet experienced higher finishes than the previous year, increased point totals, and more athletes with a podium finish.

Both men’s and women’s Cross Country teams showed improvement from the 2020 season. On the men’s side, the team qualified for the regional tournament for the first time since 2016. The Pioneers finished in 19th place as a team at the Atlantic Regional. On the women’s side, the team had one runner qualify for the regional tournament.

The 2020 Cross Country campaign showed promise for Meyers’s first year as coach for the Pioneers. Meyers finished the season with one runner making the All-MEC Second Team.
Before arriving at Glenville State, Meyers served as the head Cross Country and Track and Field coach at Salem University for the last two seasons. 

Prior to his arrival at Salem, Meyers served as head Cross Country and Track and Field coach at his alma mater, West Virginia Wesleyan College. He guided the Bobcats to a fourth-place finish at the 2018 MEC Men's Cross Country Championship. In 2019, the WVWC men's track and field team improved on its previous conference finish under Meyers and saw an increase in the number of all-conference performers. 

On the women's side, Meyers coached an All-MEC Cross Country First Team selection while also coaching a qualifier in the 2019 NCAA Division II Women's Track and Field National Championship. 

He previously spent a year as a student assistant and a year as an assistant coach at WV Wesleyan. During those two years, the Bobcats won seven out of eight combined Mountain East Conference Championships: one in men's Cross Country and two each in women's Cross Country, men's Track and Field, and women's Track and Field. 

In between his stints at West Virginia Wesleyan, Meyers spent two years as an assistant coach at Davis & Elkins College, where he helped launch the school's Track and Field program. Primary duties included recruiting, practice planning, workout preparation, and managing the lifting program. 

"We are very excited to welcome Coach Meyers to our department. He has done a great job as the head coach and administrator at Salem and has brought that program along. During his time as an assistant at Wesleyan, he was on a staff that produced seven MEC Championships, and he coached one of his athletes to the NCAA Nationals. He was also on a league title team as an athlete," stated GSU Athletic Director Jesse Skiles. 

"With his diverse background, he is a great fit for us. He has also worked in other areas of athletic departments and is an aggressive recruiter. Plus, he was committed to retaining the current coaching staff we have in place. He will be adding a graduate assistant as well, so we will have a staff built to meet the needs of all our student-athletes in the program," Skiles added.

Meyers earned a bachelor's degree in marketing with a minor in communications. He also earned an MBA with a concentration in sports management from American Public University.
