Nick Spino enters his sixth season as the Head Men's and Women's Track & Field teams.
Coach Spino in 2020 saw the indoor Track & Field teams take part in the inaugural MEC Indoor Track & Field Championship. The men's team finished in 6th place overall while the women's team took 4th place. Victoria Lewis was the MVP on the women's side as she was the High Point Scorer.
However, the 2020 outdoor season was canceled due to COVID-19.
Last season, 2019, the Pioneer men's team placed fourth in the MEC Championship scoring 100 points while the women's team scored 118 points as they also finished in fourth place. Coach Spino helped Shawn Arthur hit an NCAA provisional mark in the 400 hurdles while Victoria Lewis took home the championship in the 400 hurdles.
In 2018, the GSC women's team placed 5th overall while the women's team took home eight All-Conference honors with three top performances. The men's team they finished in the 5th place and overall the Pioneer men's team took home a total of seven All-Conference honors with three top performances and two NCAA provisional marks.
In 2017, he helped the Pioneer men's team finish 5th at the MEC Championship while the women's team placed 3rd, their highest finish at a conference championship in the past decade. He also had 12 players earn All-Conference honors while Ryan Gregory Selected to USTFCCCA All-Region Team.
Coach Spino is originally from Jeannette, Pennsylvania where he attended Jeannette Senior High School and graduated in 2008. After high school he attended Seton Hill University where he was a member of the Griffins Track & Field team for four years. During his career at Seton Hill, Spino was the WVIAC 400 Hurdles Champion (2009), NCAA Provisional Qualifier in the 400 Hurdles finishing 29th in the Nation (2009), WVIAC runner up in the 110 Hurdles (2010-2011), WVIAC runner up in the 400 Hurdles (2010), member of the WVIAC 4x400 relay championship team (2011), and a member of the WVIAC Men's Track & Field Championship Team (2013). Spino, graduated from Seton Hill University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Management.
After his running career Spino attended West Virginia Wesleyan College where he graduated with a Master's Degree in Business Administration. While at WVWC he served as a Graduate Assistant Coach for the Bobcats Cross Country and Track & Field teams for two years.
During his time as an assistant coach he helped coach the Bobcats to seven WVIAC and Mountain East Conference (MEC) Championships. He coached 10 All-Conference Hurdlers, four MEC Individual Event Champions, two NCAA DII Provisional Outdoor Qualifiers, one NCAA DII Provisional Indoor Qualifiers, one NCAA DII Second Team All-American Athlete, and had numerous Academic All-American Individuals.
Spino will also serve as the Assistant Cross Country Coach for the Pioneers. Nick resides in Glenville.
